They are chequer pattern plastic, so maybe not a good idea to stand on them. I’m sure all Defenders have them, not just black packed versions. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Mine's a Non Black Pack Defender - and they're definitely on mine and I wouldn't stand on them Steve N | 21MY Defender

Standard on all Defenders, with the black pack though they are gloss black.
The bonnet is aluminium, definitely not for standing on, unless you share a BMI index with a field mouse ![]() |

All New Defenders have them and can confirm that they are “trim” items not functional for anything and not load bearing, same as the side vent on the UK driver’s side, it serves no purpose unless you have the V8 and then you cannot have any RAI on that version either…… not sure that a V8 can even have the optional one anyway. 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

Not sure they classify as ‘tea holders’ either .. pretty slippy especially with the black pack! .. just look and admire from a distance.

A very apposite metaphor for the vehicle itself, an embellishment which appears functional but is in fact purely cosmetic!

And so true to the heritage as well, but instead of doors that are just cosmetic and don't keep any water, dust or thieves out, or a fake ventilation system that is only producing moist and cold in winter and warmth in summer, perhaps a cosmetic drink shelf is not such a bad thing ![]() Discovery 3 V8 HSE MY06 Discovery 1 V8 ES MY97 RRC 2-door V8 MY83 |
