Ballsy!
Good driving skills - seemingly without a spotter - excellent videographer and no manufactured drama despite those darn Duratracs = America's Southwest at its best, worth a watch.

Cracking scenery but still two flats within a few hours = drama, whether manufacturered or not.

Are modern tyres just not up to the task these days? Are they pared to the bone for highway fuel economy?

Hit the nail on the head there.

i think that the assumption is that if you want 'certain' sizes then you are road driving.

Again JLR at fault for producing a vehicle from the inside out and not from the wheels up. Especially your contact with the earth is the tyres.

Does kind of make a mockery of the million mile testing.......

Also - these were the most off road possible - 18" Duratracs - LR recommended tyres..

Ive covered 100s of 1000s of miles on Duratracs and never had issues. Ive competed in Morocco using them, greenlaned all over the UK. We had a 4x4 play ground in mid Wales. Damage to a Duratrac was when the user was a bit gunho or just unfortunate. Perhaps they have re designed them. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

90% of the times, sidewall punctures or tears are preventable and directly caused by driver's fault (10% of the times it's bad luck.) In the case of the TFL videos, it's just bad driving - probably on purpose to manufacture the "Can you believe how awful these tyres are?!?" drama I was talking about. The guy in the video above on the other hand - while an obviously very competent and experienced driver with balls of steel to undertake such remote trails by his lonesome - probaby was used to airing down the 37" super swampers on 16" rims of his classic Defender, so he aired down the comparatively skinny 18" Duratracs of his brand new 110 too much, exposing and pinching too much of his sidewall. He probably won't make that mistake again.

I have been in more potentially damaging terrain - with razor sharp rocks literally jumping up at you - in nearby Death Valley, the Sierras and Mojave Desert several times, never aired down more than 4 or 5 PSIs below my "street" light load settings (mostly for comfort over miles of heavily rutted trails) and my 19" Duratracs don't have a scratch on them, they are good A/T tires short of going over to the "dark side" (Light Truck, E-load, stronger and stiffer but also much heavier and noisier hybrids or MTs that aren't really designed for the new Defender.) Are these (the ones in the video) generic Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs or LR specific; and if the latter, then perhaps they have an altered design similar to the changes made to the LR specific Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure, which whilst has advantages for on road driving/economy, has drawbacks off road?

Surely that's 2 cases of bad driving, or not knowing how to use low profile tyres off road, if both TFL and NAO both punctured tyres at reduced pressure?
Or, my opinion, 2 cases of low profile tyres not being robust enough for extreme terrain.
