What are your thoughts on this 110?
Hi all, looking to buy my first Defender 110 and have seen this and hopefully viewing it this weekend:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2...amp;page=1

Relatively high milage but other than that it looks to be in pretty good condition, although always hard to tell from photos alone.

I'd appreciate your thoughts and thanks in advance for your help.

Patrick

Just me but based on those crossmember pictures and the MOT history I'd be checking the chassis etc for rust as it doesn't seem to have had much love underneath

Hi - its a bit rough round the edges but that's maybe just because its a private seller and they haven't tarted it up like a dealer. Yes, in normal times you'd probably pass.

But at today's prices, as much as it pains me to say - being a lover of a bargain, I personally would just buy it if the spec suits you. You just can't get them at sensible money anymore. The same vehicle with a polish, the crossmember painted and some waxoyl would be closer to £30k at a dealer.

Usual Land Rover advice (check bulkhead, chassis, check it hasn't been written off).

Put it another way - if it was £24k with an absolute immaculate chassis and no rust issues whatsoever then it would be a more sensible buy, So the asking price plus the cost of having a new chassis fitted by a specialist along with some maintenance while its being done is £19k + £5000 = £24k budget for that and you won't go far wrong.

I got my first defender last year (having had dozens of series vehicles and discoveries) and while I've had to spend a fair bit of money on it, the amount its gone up in value is insane - I could sell it tomorrow and would still walk away with a healthy profit.

No mention of chassis issues on any of the MOTs, could just be a typical 11 year old defender with a rusty rear cross member.
Hopefully nothing a sanding and repaint wouldnt sort out. At the end of the day you can get a new xmember fitted for £600.

Thanks for all of your replies, it's giving me some confidence that I'm not going completely down the wrong track!

I think it looks like a good honest example. Personally I would prefer it to be presented in it's genuine condition rather than a dealer hammerite over the ugly bits then inflate the price.

Few bits and bobs to sort out but looks a fair price. Perhaps it's the light or my eyes but the paint match on the side/rear panels doesn't look spot on. Worth investigating perhaps? > 110 XS Double Cab

Defiantly worth driving to have a look at that price.

A mate of mine has just paid that for a 300TDI 110 CSW with similar miles on.

Any thoughts on the absence of MOT in 2016 & 2019, then the very low mileage since?

I'm paranoid about this stuff - why is everything in such great condition except the rear cross member? The front bumper looks new. Rear step looks new too.

One of the older MOT failures is for the tyres being worn so much that there's cord visible. Hardly a caring owner.

Maybe just me though.
