Rear hub nut, re using the old ones
Well
Just done the rear discs on my 2015 Defender & I reused the “old” 52mm hub (stake) nuts.
Will I be struck down by lightning? 🤓 2015 90 Hard Top

As long as the bit you staked isn't the same area of the collar that was staked before you won't. If you've restaked exactly the same spot you probably will.

It was the same part of the collar which was re staked.
As an engineer I find it very unlikely that the hub nut could unwind. 2015 90 Hard Top

It is not good engineering practice to re stake a used nut, let alone if re staked in the same location. Having said that, I also believe that the staked part will not fall off in 3 plastic deformation actions. It will of course work harden (reason why it would snap off).
So bottom line, I think it is ok to do to get you out of trouble but it could get you in trouble if left long term. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

High torque nut - cheap as chips, why? Rgds.

Here’s the rub …
Prior to posting this, I have actually ordered 2 new ones, proper Landrover ones.
I thought I’d put this out there to see if anyone (else) had reused the old ones, albeit as a temporary measure.
Still can’t see how the nut could unwind itself if I’m honest. 2015 90 Hard Top
