hi all. had a heart stopping moment this morning when the landy started, ran very rough for about 30 seconds and cut out after I tried to give it a little rev.

I then tried to start it twice and on the 3rd time it started. Ran roughly but as soon as it was warm it ran fine.

Im hoping the VCV will sort it out but what else could I replace should it not work. I would like to do the job this weekend and would like to get the parts I may need if the VCV doesnt sort out the problem.

Hope this hyperlink works of the video i took:

Is it a good idea to replace the Map and MAF sensors?

Im sure they have never been changed and the vehicle is 10 years old now.

You really need to get it plugged into diagnostics to try and narrow down the issue before replacing lots of stuff. I can't imagine that a failed sensor would bring it to a dead stop but you never can tell. Sticking vanes on the turbo would seem to match the symptoms you describe but it's all guesswork without the codes. As mentioned above though, the lack of any fault codes would place suspicion firmly with the VCV. Darren

Thank you Darren. Appologies I should have mentioned that there are no fault codes.

It also has a new turbo - well its done about 3000kms since being replaced as the old one had too much play on the shaft.

I think you right though, will replace the VCV, see if that fixes the fault and then take it from there, instead of buying all sorts of parts for nothing. "Overlanding With Bruce" - Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@OverlandingwithBruce

As mentioned go for VCV, beyond that change the MAF and MAP sensors.
The age yours are is around the time mine went in the bin. There are links on here if you ‘search’ for these parts direct from manufacturer at significant saving for the same parts.
LR mark up significantly, for example the MAP is a Bosch part anyway…
The MAF is a Genuine Ford part on mine, both items a good third of the price LR charge and they are the same items.
VCV I had was brand new from PFJones and came in a Genuine Nissan parts box so it is a multi manufacturer part. It was the correct part and has been perfect since as well.

Very happy with it. Hope that info helps No Guts, No Glory.

Thank you all for the replies and advice. Changed the vcv as suggested and it’s worked. Also with Pete from BAS’s advice I have reset what needed to be reset.
Landy drives so much better and no more lumpy idle.

I did come up with some new names for the vcv while trying to remove it but I won’t repeat those names here 😂

Thank you again. "Overlanding With Bruce" - Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@OverlandingwithBruce
