Cheers for posting Supacat Thumbs Up

They are so lucky having access to trials like that; absolutely stunning! Almost enough to make me want to emigrate.

As soon as they started up that trail, you could see it was inevitable the new defender wasn't going to make it in one piece.

No matter how the JLR marketing team spin it, it's just not a 'proper' off roader. Don't get me wrong, it's more than capable for what 99% of people will ever throw at it.... but you can say that about a disco 4 too Laughing 2011 CSW XS 90

Seriously??? That trailis not that tough. Defender did not have ediff, standard tyres and it doesnt look like they used rock crawl. Plus if the Air suspension needs it, siuper extended mode can be forced. They set the Defender up to fail.

Yea, not that tough for a proper off roader!

Plus, I didn't say it wouldn't make it... I said it wouldn't make it in one piece; i.e. without damaging something.

With a generous dollop of power, smaller wheels, bigger/better tyres and not giving a Censored about potential damage to the vehicle, I have no doubt it would have made it.

But as they stressed in the video, all the vehicles tested were as they came from the factory and the defender has the optional 'off road tyres' fitted. 2011 CSW XS 90

Brings in more clicks, I suppose (whereas different wheels and tyres obviously wouldn’t).

It only heeded better tyres than the AT which is only 50% offroad rated, ediff and the driver knowing how to drive the defender. It does not need to be damaged or abused and anyone with a bit of offroad skill will know this.

As they said in the video, all the vehicles were tested as they came from the factory - both the Ford and the Jeep had their original tyres fitted - I take your point and maybe JLR should look at offering a more off road biased tyre. 2011 CSW XS 90

They do - an 18” DuraTrac. Maybe they should have taken that Bronco on a track day or something - “it understeered into the gravel and rolled over at the first corner, but it’s as it came from the factory…”.

I'm not sure what you meant by your comment Philip, but my interpretation is that you think the new defender is as suitable for off road driving, as a bronco is for track driving Laughing 2011 CSW XS 90

More the other way around - why go somewhere and do something that you know is likely to damage a specific size and type of tyre? Because you also know the off-road Walt brigade gets into a priapic froth over anything remotely critical of the Defender, however silly, and that drives traffic on your channel through the roof.

Andrew St Pierre White will be loving this video. TFL seem to have zero luck with the Defender. I wouldn't let them in my car - the engine would probably pack in or they'd accidentally hit a UXO.

Been there, done that. Two miles into a greenlaning weekend.

The vehicle is immensely capable, the tyres are rubbish with no sidewall reinforcement whatsoever. A set of proper BFGs is an easy fix.

Me too, a month ago at Forrest Estates in Dumfries and Galloway to a 9000 miles up Duratrac. According to posts elsewhere the sizes/ versions of both Adventurer and Duratracs accorded LR approval don’t have the Kevlar sidewall reinforcement that the regular versions have……..

Kevlar according to Goodyear (are yours “J”, or “J LR” or “LR” marked? Are any of them?):
