New 110 240 HSE 5 months old ……..Evening please can i ask thoughts on the two photos, the bar across the top of the suspension is not the best finish and surface rust and paint on the left side of the bar is all bubbled soon to drop off !

Would this be considered under a warranty claim or ??

An interesting situation. I accepted this as normal on the old Defender. With my second one from new I applied Dinitrol to all the areas I knew would rust both under the bonnet and behind the grill.

I would not however find it acceptable on the new Defender, given that it is supposed to be built to modern manufacturing standards.
I had a 12 year old Audi with less rust under the bonnet.

I would take it back and complain.

Not acceptable on a new vehicle. I've had LR change over rusting wheel bolts during the warranty period in the past. Defender 90 HSE 250D 2022MY - Gave up after two failed orders

Jesus! That is a poor finish. I really don’t know how JLR get away with it?

It's a funny thing why we have come to 'expect' & sadly even tolerate shoddily turned out vehicles from JLR; I've had several new (old) Defenders & never even given the ever present rust from day one a second thought, in psychology I believe its called 'level of denial'!

I've just sold my 2016 XS (I will never sell my Wolf though) & acquired a new VW T6.1 Highline Campervan to replace it & strangely I did the usual Land Rover thing & crawled underneath with my tin of Dinitrol Coroheat 4010 expecting to see lots of rust, exposed untreated metal & a total absence of rust protection but having looked & looked again I crawled back out with a full tin!

Rust on a new Defender...it's 2021, don't put up with it...other manufacturers seem to have twigged that a long time ago, otherwise I feel JLR will be going in the same direction as Lancia!!! Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains

Not acceptable on a >£70,000 new vehicle. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

My previous D3/D4/FL2 has actually been the best vehicles I've owned in terms of rust/rust protection. Much better than the VW's, Renaults and Peugeots we have owned during the same period.
Old style defenders, D1's and D2's that we also have/had is a different story, they were poor in this area from start/design.
Still too early to know about L663, but hope is that it will match other LR's of late in this respect. 110 SE D200 MY21 Tasman blue
