Window motor suicide
My driver's window motor has committed harakiri and given up the ghost. Symptoms started with it finding it difficult to get it out of the window frame but being alright otherwise, to finding it tough up and down the whole way. Today even trying to help it along with the palm of my hand won't work. I can hear some kind of limp attempt but no strength. It's as if it's battery powered and run out of juice.

Does anyone have experience of this? I've had the door card off to cure a rattle (locking rod clip loose), but didn't study the window motor. Is it simply a question of bolt off and on again?

No doubt the motor is a Lucas part and LR charge £1,000 for it Rolling Eyes Needless to say I'll get it elsewhere.

Not sure how these motors work, whether it is a mechanical scissor linkage or a toothed belt operation. Either way I would take the card off, disconnect any load from the motor and run it to see what's going on before committing to a new motor. Maybe do a couple of voltage checks and see how much current it draws both under load and with load disconnected.
There are companies (we use in the marine industry) that will overhaul and even rewind motors for a fraction of the cost of a full replacement. Hope this may help! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I have a friend in the Land Rover trade who said that in 10 years he had never seen a winder motor failed... He laughed when we ordered wind-up (manual) windows... Whistle

It doesn't help at all but at least I am Rolling with laughter

Spoke to Foley today who confirmed that motors do go with moisture in them. It's going in for a look and a new motor if it needs one next month. Good old Foley. I'll update on the outcome. If only I could afford one of their custom made 170inch 6x6s while I'm there
