Hints or tips for retrofitting air con to a puma?
I’ve got the cool air Logan kit coming tomorrow. Any hints or tips for installing, and is there anything else I should be doing while the dash is out?

Cheers
Col

Regrease your wiper cable and wheel boxes Col, they'll thank you.

The condenser brackets and frame on the genuine Landrover normally start rusting as soon as JLR perform the rain test. I hope the Logan kit is better, but perhaps add some protection for better life.

I hate that the condensation from the evaporator drips on the gearbox and then on the gearbox crossmember. I would like to extend the drain tube, so would be nice if you can add some photos as I have not been able to locate the drain (not that I have looked that much for it).

When I removed the dash, I had to remove the gear lever. Perhaps grease the linkages. There was also a bulletin on putting some bushes at housing bolts to improve gear shifting unless already done. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Here’s Dinnu, great info. Was hoping I wouldn’t have to remove the gearstick, but I guess it’s not too much more faff?

Logan sent me the instructions ahead of time and I did note that there is no mention of the drain line from the evaporator, so I’ll have to look out for that.

I'll be very interested to hear how the install goes Co1, and any tips you have post fitting. I've been speaking to Logan as looking to install it in my DCPU.

Having some pretty significant problems installing the condenser. Has anyone down this before? The instructions just say “install condenser” and leaves it at that!! A quick phone call with somone that has done it would be appreciated.

Edit: Ignore the above, sorted.

Stuck again!! I can’t get the heater box back installed. I can’t get it low enough to get it through the bulkhead. There is a guy cross member on the gearbox tunnel that prevents it getting low enough. Thoughts?

Had to cut a section out of the heater box to get it to fit. No big deal. Now I’m stuck though!! Can I hell get the pipes clamped back into the matrix. Does it need a specific tool? I seem to have to align the pipes, clamp the clamp, slot the strew through and then tighten it up, with only space for one hand! What am I doing wrong?

If I could get a more accommodating hose clamp that draws the two pipes together that would be great. In the factory they fit the pipe to the matrix, then put the matrix in the heater box, then install the heater box with an empty engine bay. I can’t do that without some serious work under the bonnet.

Dinnu: See attached. The drain is just another of those weird valves they use on the rest of the heating system. Not a great design.

Thanks Col. Looks like it is right above the gearbox.

Yes it is. The piece you see there is about 40mm deep and just exits on top of the gear box.
