Anyone near this? The US seem to have left a lot behind including Defender 110’s

Must say, I spotted that on the news as well. A lot of surplus kit which will no doubt either be appropriated by locals or Taliban or simply be left to rust. Wheeler Dealers should get themselves over there. In reality though, what a waste. 20 years to achieve exactly nothing, at a huge cost in lives, money and infrastructure. Within 12mths it will either be full Taliban control, just as it was in 2001, or it will be all out civil war. I’m not sure the Afgahni army has the will to fight the Taliban without coalition support, so likely the former. So sad. Western imperialism f**ks up again.

After all that blood and treasure expended to militarily defeat the Taliban once again the nation building has not worked. They will be back and I’m not sure that anyone else will have the will to oppose them. I agree with you on the terrible waste of it all. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Guess its cheaper to leave them there then fly them back and auction them off. Agree what a waste.. the taliban are going to have lots to add to their collection.

Couldn’t agree more with your first statement more. Why on earth we thought we could ‘win’ in an era of Human Rights, War Commissions, 24hr TV, imbedded journos etc, when we couldn’t win as an Empire with absolutely no rules, or as a post war Super power who was happy to flout them, is beyond me. If you can’t win a guérilla war by brutal imperialist means, you ain’t gonna win it by legal conventional means. Anyone could see that. Chinese nation building is already well under way in Africa, so should they decide to tackle Afghanistan, they will do it by investment not might. Imagine what the $2tn spent on the war could have done for the country if invested directly into its infrastructure. That’s how you win hearts and minds and turn the tide against a regime like the Taliban. Sadly American imperialism is always governed by vocalised or actual military might. The idea of being nice and working with people/nations is beyond them as a history of failed interventions shows. So many lives lost by US foreign policy over the past 100 years. I bet all the Land Rovers will still be there in a year’s time but all the Toyotas will be in service out on the streets as “technicals” rounding up the locals for corrective treatment.
BTW when I was sailing between Port Quassim in Pakistan and Jebel Ali (UAE) 4 years ago we carried 100’s of Land Rovers and US armoured vehicles a week to UAE - they didn’t fly them out they drove them all the way to Karachi from Afghan. Lorries and armoured cars too, the few tanks were shipped on specialist RoRo’s used by the MOD. We took approx 100 vehicles a week for 2 years across the Arabian Sea for transshipment back to USA and U.K. on main line containerships or in car carrier ships. We would load containers 4 high on deck and then every one of them would have a vehicle landed on top and lashed down. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior.
