300tdi defender 90 extended front prop shaft?
Hi All,

Me again, i need some advice on a longer front prop shaft, since ive fitted a terrafirma +50mm medium load lift kit to my defender ive been getting a vibration from the front prop, i had if off this weekend and adjusted it round 1 spline which has helped a little but it seems a replacement is in order.

Can anyone recommend a longer prop shaft?

I don't think its longer you'll need as opposed to wider angle UJ's

Whilst there may be a section of the splines exposed, the UJ’s operating outside of there intended angle will be what is causing the vibrations

You’ll need to go for a wide angle prop to cure it. A Td5 front prop may give help (they are slightly bigger than tdi) or if not the your best to go to the likes of Gwyn Lewis 4x4 for a proper wide angle prop shaft

Castor correction front cranked radius arms are usually fitted to correct the prop shaft angle when Defenders are lifted 2". Never had to change the prop

I think you might find that the castor corrected front radius arms make the propshaft angle worse, not better.

I believe the idea of the castor correction is to make the struts tilt further backwards, giving improved "desire" to drive in a straight line - much like your bicycle front forks are angled forwards towards the bottom. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Mates just about to remove a full kit for 2" lift. Front and rear cranked arms, lowered tube style front turrets and dropped rear shock mounts so you can use standard shock absorbers. Think he said he'd be looking for £200 to shift them quick, gets around alot with work so could prob meet up with you to avoid you having to come to North Yorkshire

I thought they rotated the axle to correct the diff to prop angle? Could be wrong

The castor correction is predominantly for the steering to ensure that it returns to centre better.

It does also change the prop angles but this is ensuring that both ends run at the same angle which in turn will increase the angle the UJ’s run at especially on the diff end.

Thanks for your clear explanation. My friend fitted C C arms to his TD5 and it stopped eating UJ's for fun. As i understand it TD5 have a larger UJ at the diff end of the front prop
