Yes you remove the side sill when you fit sliders to a Defender. About 50mm in depth, and are just pressed aluminium and held on with small m6 bolts.

Thanks. Yep, from your link , bought the black bits (protectors) but do not have the silvery bits in situ to fit them too. Guessing these are brought separately which is what I need but lack the know how as to what to look up . Pictures on “part “ sites are not clear or particularly informative.
