If you means the cappings along the top edges of the rear tub, they are structural. If you means the vertical trim that covers the join between the side and the back of the rear tub, they are not structural.

I don't know of anyone who has made (or even thought of making) plastic ones!

Probably because the galvanized cappings do a very good job.
