Apparently it’s Engine Failure
Evening all,

A colleague of mine has a 2018 2.0 Disco, only covered 33k with full dealer history that developed a loud ticking noise (his words saying it sounds like a tractor) The vehicle is just out of warranty and has been recovered to Jardines Land Rover who without even stripping it say it’s engine failure and the only repair is a replacement.

They are confident LR will contribute under goodwill but have been very conservative explaining the issue.

I know it’s a little vague but does anything like this relate with anyone’s knowledge or experience on here. Do these 2.7’s have known engine issues?

Any suggestions would be welcomed. Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

If it's a 3.0 V6 diesel, they're well known for major crank problems, requiring a new engine.

Don't know what the situation is regarding a contribution to the cost.

Our sister site Disco4.com, shows the V6 engine to be very reliable, in comparison to a Puma Defender! Rolling with laughter Bow down

20% of V6 Discoverys have snapped a crank or spun bearings.
48% of Puma Defenders have had a failed intermediate shaft.

Morning all, I have corrected the above as this is a 2.0SD4

I’m told they do have a known engine timing chain problem so I need to get more detail on the faults to establish if this could be the failure Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

Which manufacturer does not have timing chain issues on ‘modern’ engines. Long gone the days where chains were duplex or triplex. Nowadays the timing chains are more suited for a bicycle than anything else. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
