If it's a 3.0 V6 diesel, they're well known for major crank problems, requiring a new engine.
Don't know what the situation is regarding a contribution to the cost. |

Our sister site Disco4.com, shows the V6 engine to be very reliable, in comparison to a Puma Defender!
![]() ![]() 20% of V6 Discoverys have snapped a crank or spun bearings. 48% of Puma Defenders have had a failed intermediate shaft. https://www.disco4.com/forum/topic154411-105.html https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic62521-120.html The repair bill for the Discovery is much higher though.... |

Morning all, I have corrected the above as this is a 2.0SD4
I’m told they do have a known engine timing chain problem so I need to get more detail on the faults to establish if this could be the failure Ride like you stole it!! If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do… 2011 2.4 Puma 90 HT |

Which manufacturer does not have timing chain issues on ‘modern’ engines. Long gone the days where chains were duplex or triplex. Nowadays the timing chains are more suited for a bicycle than anything else. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
