Well the truck is back and the creak/knocking is gone never to return (hopefully) apparently it was a loose either gearbox or transfer box mount !!!! Bliss no annoying creak
Cheers Current Landy is a 110 2.2 Puma bit different from my first one a Series 1 with a straight 6 petrol engine last one was a 2.2 puma 90 but the M4 crash barrier took care of that !!!! |

I seem to have this noise develop, especially on uneven ground. It seems like the floor pan is creaking and the noise is quite loud but frustrating.
It goes back into LR shortly to check it out again but does anyone have any suggestions? The last time they said the greased a bush in the steering rack which did nothing. |

I had the same knocking in the footwell which got worse over time. It started with a knock when going over little bumps, then when taking corners and when braking.
I looked at all the bushes in the panhard rod, radius arms, swivel pins, steering linkage and dampers - but no luck. Looked at shock bushings and replaced the shocks to Koni's while at it. The knock remained and it really got on my nerves. I checked the chassis outrigger to cab bolts, they were tight - tightened some more and knock remained. I took one more very close look from underneath and found two 6mm bolts (10mm head) going through two small brackets on the left and right chassis beams. The bolts bolt through the floor plates, on the drivers side it goes through the handbrake bracket bolting through the floor plate. You need to lift the floormat up, then it becomes easy to locate the nut from underneath. It is not far from the front facing plate of the seat box. Tightening these fixed my knock - all gone. Good luck, maybe this helps. I checked all forums for weeks and could not find these little bolts mentioned anywhere. |

Hi all
Did anyone else get to the bottom of this. I have the same issue around the driver footwell where there is a noticeable creak. I notice it more when breaking and setting off in first. I first thought it was the anti roll bar so I replaced the D bushes and drop links as they looked tired anyway. It does sound structural as if something has come loose but not in the roof as suggested in another post. Could it be the bulkhead that's loose? 1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone 1981 Series III SWB Hardtop - gone 1982 Series III SWB Hardtop - gone 1997 300Tdi Defender 90 Hardtop - gone 1983 Series III SWB Station Wagon - gone 1979 Series III SWB Station Wagon - gone 2007 90 CSW - gone 2010 USW XS - gone 2010 110 USW - gone 1959 Series II Truck Cab 1984 Series III CSW 2004 TD5 90 CSW |

It could be but have you tried the fix that WRFrance posted immediately above yours? Darren

You could check the bulkhead to outrigger bolts, which is fairly easy to do. Failing that, the only other suggestion above that seems to have led to a fix was gearbox mountings. That'd be unusual but not impossible. Darren

Thanks I will check both of those, just before I bought it a few months ago it did have the gearbox output shaft changed so the box would of been out so just maybe it wasn't put back right? 1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone
