[For Sale] Rooftent and awning - Myway Serengeti and Campmor
Hi guys,

Looking to sell my rooftent and awning combo. I bought them on here a couple of years ago now and having got used to rooftents, and deciding they are something I want to continue with, I'm getting a new 'hardshell' tent.

So - this kit needs to go. I think rooftents are a bit 'in' just now, but will try here first before going to ebay.

It's a Myway Serengeti tent. No longer made I don't think, but a 'traditional' folding tent in a ripstop canvas, with a lighter weight nylon cover. When I bought it I was told that it was considerably lighter than some similar tents - 45kg or so.

Very comfortable for myself and my wife, and used in some quite nasty UK/Scottish conditions without any real issue. On one night, where the wind moved 90' after setting up camp, there was strong driving wind and rain hitting the side of the tent - ended up a little damp on the tent floor around the hole where the poles fold, but nothing major.

I find I've more awning pics than of the tent, so here are the only tent pics I have to hand at the moment. I might be able to find more later.

Light weight and compact, means it won't get in the way in your future expeds..

It's easy to erect and put away. Under 10 minutes each way once you've done it a couple of times.

Comes with a ladder, mattress and cover sheet. Midge screen on the doors and windows. It's about 140cm wide, by 2.2m long (once opened!). Sitting height about 120/130cm I think. Also comes with the 'shower room' which you can see in the pics. This attaches to a 'C' strip mounted on the underside of the tent, and just slides in. Haven't showered in it - but it's good for sheltering the back door!

The awning is a Campmor - again decent canvas construction. It comes with two sides which can be fitted once the awning is up.

It fits onto a fairly standard 'C' strip which you mount onto the car. Buy/fit an extra strip or two and you could fit it either side, or on the back.

With all the poles it can be erected freestanding - roof and two sides.

Only negative I can find is that there's a manufacturing fault on one of the sides - just some misaligned stitching.

The awning top, poles, lines and pegs all pack away into a bag - the sides don't fit in there.

For most of you, I am probably in an 'inconvenient' location - up near Inverness. But who knows, this year there might be a few wanting to tackle the NC500 who could drop in and collect on the way there, or the way back?

Alternatively, it looks as if I'll be heading south to pick up my new tent in the last week of July. Heading to Worcester so M74/M6/M5 corridor. I'd be happy to meet up on that route on the way down. We'd need to be prepared to lift the tent off the top of the car and onto your vehicle, or into a van/trailer. This would need to be a robust arrangement as I'd need the tent off the roof in order to collect the new one.

Alternatively #2, happy to work around any courier/collection options.

If you check back, I paid £900 for this kit. It's been used a few times, but not abused, so £800 please. I'd prefer to sell them as a pair, but if they have to be split then it would be £600 for the tent; £200 for the awning.

I can take BACS and paypal, but if you want to use paypal it would need to be £830 to cover the fees.

For the interests of transparency, and my not having to check what time someone posted on the thread, or sent a PM, I'd prefer if anyone really interested posted on the thread first, followed by a PM. No one falls out or gets grumpy that way.

Any questions, please let me know!

Ta Donald

Hi, I’m possibly interested in the awning, I would need to look into the cost of having it sent to Cornwall, would you be able to send me the weight and the packed size of it.
Thanks

Hi,
Just had a chance to measure and weigh the awning.

Awning itself is 12kg + 2 sides @ 2kg each = 16kg.

By the time I wrap them up properly etc, I reckon it will be 1.2m x 30cm x 30cm.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers Donald

Hi folks,

Sorry for the slow reply - busy day at work, and just home.

At this stage both tent and awning are still available. Haven't managed to get inside pics of the tent yet, so hadn't stuck it on ebay.

Either/or tent or awning would work just fine on a 90. Stu, who I bought it from had it on his 90. Donald

Many thanks to Donald for the Campmor awning, which arrived in perfect condition this morning after having travelled almost the full length of the UK in his Armageddon proof packaging. I'm looking forward to attaching it to my Sankey Comms trailer once the weather improves. If the rooftent is as nice as the awning then whoever buys it will be getting a great deal.
