It smoother. You need to drive and compare. I think the 6 cylinder may be a better long term car. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

You could still consider the D200 6 cylinder versus the D240 4 cylinder (increased torque).

Admittedly I've only driven the 4 pot D240 diesel so far but I found the power delivery very off-putting.
From standstill the turbo takes a second or so to cut in leading to a very jerky takeoff. My test drive lasted a few hours & maybe in time I would have got used to it - but it put me off. IMHO I think I'd go for the 6 pot version Richard Defender 90 SVX |

The 4 pot is fine, but there’s no comparison - the 6 is the way to go. Unless you can get a significant discount on a 4, in that case it could be worth it.
My 6-cyl D200 drives like it has much more power than the 4-cylinder D240 I had on test - there’s far more torque and it’s that which is important in an engine, horsepower is for pub bragging. |

^^^ as above - I had a D240 as my test drive but my six pot D200 is luvverly with it's better torque and nice burbly noise - as someone once said, there's no replacement for displacement...
And of course you get to pick your toys on a factory order... Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history) |

Thank you all for your advice. I ordered a 110 D250 X-Dynamic SE this afternoon in Santorini Black. Currently in build and I should get it mid July. Ordering a little blind without driving the 6 cylinder, but I’m sure it’ll be good. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

You won’t be disappointed with the 6 cylinder, it’s quiet, silky smooth and pretty responsive. 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder is like night and day. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue
