Air con condensor supplier
Hi All

Has anyone found anywhere that will supply the aircon rad/condensor for a TD5 Defender on its own without the frame and fan that most places want £400plus for? got to be a cheaper option?
Maybe theres an aftermarket option from an aircon supplier?

Cheers
Ben

This came up on a thread in the Puma section last week, which uses the same part, and the conclusion was that there really isn't a cheaper option, unfortunately. I think Island 4x4 were the most economic. Darren

I did a lot of searching last week and can ouly find them sold as a complete unit - there are a couple of overseas sites on Ebay who suggest that there are some condensers which will fit in the frame for the defender, but I am unable to find any confirmation that they will fit .. and there may be ‘issues’ importing from Europe.

So bit the bullet and ordered one from Island 4x4 who were very helpful and its sitting ready for fitting.

I looked into this recently and found a handful of potentially suitable cores from other vehicles. I need to remove my condenser to confirm the fitting sizes before I can work out which one(s) are best suited.
The cores I found are for Subaru Impreza/Legacy, Volvo FH-12 and FH-16, Renault Master/Vauxhall Movano, Nissan Patrol and around £60.

Wyvern, can you share links to the items you found? > 110 XS Double Cab

There are quite a few 'car parts' websites that list ones that they claim to be comparable?

Hi Forum,

I am having exactly the same question. The full set (frame, condenser and fan) LR025985 is quite expensive indeed. I only need the condenser, which is not leaking but is missing nearly half the small radiating aluminium bits between the tubing 😀.

The sites that offer the condesers (see above) claim competbility, but the pictures provided are different from what is actually installed in my 2004 Td5.

Does anybody have an update on this search?

I might be able to throw another option into the mix very soon....

Not going to be cheaper than some of the current options, but is a much more efficient design, using a much more modern core design... and won't start falling apart after 12 months.

Currently undergoing sign off testing.

With single fan or twin fan mounts - and reuses the original frame (and fan if going single).

This is a high quality all aluminium set up.

There has been a few changes to design - photos are original prototype.

£120 needs a 15" electric fan. Just have to cut your old plug off and refit.

Fits well but needs some.minor bending of the AC lines and a 10mm thick washer in the bottom corners.

Gassed it up a few weeks ago, ice cold better than its ever been! Instagram @defender_ventures

Thanks for the nice pics. Will however the grill fit to the front? The lower part of the condensor sticks out significantly, IMHO the original grill will not fit at the bottom

@porny, seems you were able to replace only the condensor while keeping the original frame.

Where did you purchase the condensor (brand model/part no)?

Much appreciated!

Sure, but looking at my A/C grill, that doesn’t provide enough room for that condenser at the bottom just above the front bumper

Ow, indeed looks like the A/C grill leaves enough room at the bottom for the higher condenser. Great!

@porny, I would still be interested in your route of repairing the (original) condenser. Can you please share the make and model you have used to replace the condenser only.

Best regards
Rob
