Trailblazer: 1st ever locking differential added after deliv
Hey guys,

so my specced defender showed up at the dealership in in October of 2020 a D300 with the locking differential but no other option. Completely stripped down no explorer /‘ adventure pack, no leather seats, no upgraded dash, nothing but steelies. I passed on it. The same dealer had a fully optioned P400 HSE with every single option except the WiFi hotspot, and no locking differential. Full explorer pack ladder lunch box, side steps bigger tires roof rack snorkel. I went for that but needed to find a way to add the locking differential. I contacted Rob Hall of Duckworth parts, Mo, of LR Retrofits, and Simon of Powerful UK. With the 3 smartest guys about Defenders we then were able to source:

1. Locking torque vectoring differential. 1723.00 pounds.
2. Differential module. 663. USD.
3. Wiring harness 193 pounds.
4, Differential fluid 200 usd.
5. Used SVR drivers side axle to fit the new differential 200. USD.

LR-Retrofits was confident they could program the truck BCM to recognize the differential module and activate and integrate it to the truck!

‘’Freddy of British Auto Specialists 310-912-4591 in Gardena, California installed the torque vectoring differential, and then used a 2018 Range Rover sport/ full-size l405/ velar wiring connector to wire the differential actuator to the module, then to the fuse box then tapped the high speed can us and an ignition signal wire. He even used the same fuse location that that the locking differential used in the fuse box.

I then pm’ed a JLR engineer on Facebook who walked us through why connector to buy to marry to my main chassis harness and confirmed if we correctly tapped the BCM and ignition to the module the truck would recognize the differential and integrate it flawlessly with the ATPC and Configurable Terrain Response and TR2.

LR-Retrofits after Freddy did his magic programmed the differential module and updated the ccf files thrus pathfinder and the Bosch DOiP tool, and the car now has my locking differential I wanted all along in a factory oem spec.

FYi my service advisor and tech know and will honor the warranty and the service manager had me make a video so they could learn the process! My warranty is intact but I trailblazed the 1st oem locking differential to a defender that didn’t have it!

I plan on selling my old open differential since it fits, the l405, the sport and the Velar.

while LR-Retrofits was in there I also ordered the WiFi hotspot SIM card slot, and they activated that too!

I understand you can spec this upfront but my truck was screwed by Covid and the fully loaded truck didn’t have it and I absolutely had to have it. I realized I paid triple plus the cost of ordering it, but it can be done!

a used differential and svr axle, can be used but you will need a new differential control module because it has to be coded to your vin and bcm and the canbbus will reject a non USA spec module.

im happy and will laugh at all of the insults and voided warranty complaints coming after this...Bwahahaha! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🍾🍾🍾🍾

Good Job on This!!

Question for you - do you get the Pivi Pro Screen and the Dash Screen showing different Status of the Diff's?

Mine was factory fit and i have this issue - dealer had car 11 days and was unable to resolve.

Also the ECO Screen Middle display showing 1?

Hope you can make it out from the photos.

I’m not familiar with your problem. I just think mismatched screens is a computer glitch and as long as your rear locker works I wouldn’t worry about it it not syncing. 2022 Defender Trek Competition 110 collectors edition!

Amazing project. I don’t understand why the SIM card option isn’t standard. Surely we are over sim locking stuff, how 90’s.

Excellent project and shows what can be done with determination.

Great to see such a complex mod happening on a vehicle that has barely been launched. It gives hope for more mods further down the line becoming more feasible. Defender 90 HSE 250D 2022MY - Gave up after two failed orders

Thanks guys! You can find a used locking differential for under 1,000 and the module is 200 used, 600 new, and programming 400 lbs. it can be done cheaper than going all new parts. 2022 Defender Trek Competition 110 collectors edition!
