Looks to be no heater core fitted at all so assume the heater box is there to provide a mounting for the fan and ambient temp air only.
Best bet would be a rusty donor heater box so you can get the hot/cold flap and lever and the air control flap which also looks to be missing. Add a a new heater matrix and heater hoses. Are the outlets blanked on your engine for the heater hoses or is there a bypass hose fitted? Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how to answer your questions just yet, but I can confirm that there is air flow to the cabin/screen. I take it I would have to drill out the rivets and install the matrix and control, and re-rivet back again.

To install a matrix and flaps, you would need to take the heater apart - the top off at least. It might be easier just to get a good UK spec one if you can find one, and keep the current one somewhere for originality's sake?
I'm not familiar with your older engine (mine's a Tdi) so don't know where you'd look for the coolant pipes to plug in. You might also need to get hold of the spigots that screw into the engine to allow the hoses to fit. I know that Protons in Malaysia only have cold settings. Cold and colder. Not surprising given that it is 32dC all year round in south east asia. So I guess your 110 is a Singapore spec, and they saved a few quids by omitting the heater matrix.
The connection for the hot water from the engine are right at the front, next to the thermostat. Maybe can take a picture of the front part of the engine? Originally there would be 2 short rubber hoses at the front, then 2 metal tubes along the top cover that then connect through 2 small rubber hoses to the heater matrix. Note that 1986 heater matrix have the connection facing downwards. Later heater matrix have the connections horizontal. Off topic, but I do not think is common on a 110 to have an 88” fuel filler arrangement and a 90 fuel tank as well. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

The forward fuel filler is a long-range tank, manually switchable from a lever under the driver.
