I´m very impressed by this.
Not a US pickup-fan in the slightest, but I can see this being very significant in so many ways. USA´s redneck pickup market is enormous. Lots of power, comfort and practical space for very little money, have made it the most sold vehicle for about 40 years. Outside the big cities, every household has one. The customers are conservative, and the price is king. This F150 Lightning doesn´t have challenging looks, exagerated styling, or a high price tag. With its flat floor and impressive size, the frunk is the best in the EV segment, and solves the eternal pickup weakness of where to put the stuff that stays in the vehicle overnight The floodlighting features and an armada of sockets in the frunk, flatbed and interior, and a big battery capacity to supply from, are speaking to every craftsman, sportsman and camper´s needs. Fantastic marketing - "enough power to run a home for several days". 0-60 in around 4 seconds, in a truck that can tow 4 1/2 tons, for god´s sake! Base price around $40K. I love the brave approach of Bollinger, Rivian, Hummer, Grenadier, and Tesla with their Cybertruck. Each has their relevance in their own individual ways. However, I think Ford may well have created the revolutionary step that brings the electric vehicle home, to the common man. Far more effective than the Model 3 or Tesla´s planned $25k offering. The key thing here is the price I think. All the other offerings are stupidly expensive, Ford have found a way to keep the price more in line with normal puck-ups. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Don't forget the $7,500 federal EV tax credit which is still currently available for Ford & then there are "dozens of state and regional incentives". "In California, for example, people who buy or lease a new electric car can get a $2,000 cash rebate. Should just say that the Federal tax credit, as I understand it, is only applicable if you have actually paid or owe the full $7,500 in tax in the tax year you buy the vehicle & does not apply to you as an individual if you lease it. |

Seems the customers are clamouring for this more than Ford expected ~ 120,000 reservations but I hadn't seen that the prodtion targets were set so low initially: "DETROIT, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co(F.N) has doubled its production target for the F-150 Lightning because of strong early demand for the full-sized electric pickup truck ahead of its 2022 launch, and the company plans to spend an additional $850 million to meet that target, several people and suppliers familiar with the plans said. The No. 2 U.S. automaker is targeting annual production of more than 80,000 in 2024, up from its prior target of more than 40,000, according to the sources, who asked not to be identified. Shares of Ford rose 1.3% on Monday. "They were pleasantly surprised by the demand for the Lightning," one of the sources said of Ford officials. Industry observers have questioned whether individual buyers will give up their gas-powered pickups for electric models, but commercial customers are pushing for electric trucks and vans to reduce their carbon footprints. The ramp to the new production target includes plans to build about 15,000 next year after the electric truck's spring launch and 55,000 in 2023, a second source said. Following the launch of the second generation Lightning in late 2025, the annual target is just shy of 160,000. The increase is on top of the 50% boost Ford outlined last November, the sources said. Driving the more optimistic targets is strong pre-launch demand for the vehicle, especially with commercial customers, the sources said. "We are excited with customer demand for the F-150 Lightning and already have 120,000 customer reservations, and we will continue to look for ways to break constraints and meet customer demand," Ford said in a statement.
