DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor previewed its new electric F-150 Lightning pickup earlier than planned during a visit Tuesday by President Joe Biden to the Michigan plant that will produce the vehicle.
The highly anticipated truck resembles the automaker’s current F-150 but has unique exterior styling such as a closed-off grille and light bar across the front of the vehicle that connects its headlights. Sitting next to a traditional 2021 Ford F-150, the electric pickup appeared to be about the same size with a smoother, more aerodynamic design. Ford declined to release additional details about the vehicle ahead of its official public reveal at 9:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday. Ford executives have said the F-150 Lightning will be a true pickup truck designed for commercial work, unlike expected lifestyle pickups such as the GMC Hummer EV or Tesla Cybertruck. It is expected to go on sale by the middle of next year. “It is just the best of Ford,” Jim Farley, Ford’s CEO, said last week during the company’s annual shareholders meeting. Farley has said the F-150 Lightning will be able “to power your home during an outage, it’s even quicker than the original F-150 Lightning performance truck; and it will constantly improve through over-the-air updates.” https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/18/ford-revea...ckup-.html She rambles a bit, but it seems there might be some truth in this: |

Nice that the economy version of the F-150 engine is the "ECOBOOST V6"

But more bad news for the current workers ~ Ford will idle both F-150 plants for 2 more weeks
"DETROIT — Hours before it was set to unveil its F-150 Lightning electric pickup, Ford Motor Co. informed employees that both plants that build the gasoline-powered version — the nation’s bestselling vehicle — will be idled for two weeks as part of another round of production cuts. In a memo to employees obtained by Automotive News and confirmed by Ford, the automaker said its Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan and the truck side of its Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri will be idled the weeks of May 31 and June 7. They will also operate on a reduced schedule the week of June 14." https://newsbinding.com/news/automobile/fo...ore-weeks/ |

20,000 reservations in the first 12 hours.
Starting price under $40k, and qualifies for the $7,500 federal EV credit. |

According to Autocar it won’t be available in UK. Presumably they will use the technology in the Ranger or similar. WARNING.

No surprise there, bearing in mind that the F-150 isn't available here either (presumably due to the restrictive weight/classification/licencing situation in the uk).
Shame though! |

Replying to Tim’s last comment, that’s the spare wheel release system, insert wheel brace I’d imagine, to wind wheel down 😉😜

I must admit I quite like it.
And from daily driving a single cab pickup a few years ago, the idea of a secure storage area under the bonnet is a really good one. so much better than having your tools on display in the back. |
