TDCI 2.4 no fuel in rail or fuel up pipe
Hi all,

A continuation from my last post and issue after trying a few things. I have an issue where my landy (2007 XS) wont start. It ran fine last Sunday but when I started it on Monday it died out. I struggled to get it running but it ran for a short while last night but with a really rough idle (got video if anyone thinks that will help diagnose things). I turned it off but couldn't get it started again.

I have tried cracking the rail pipes and cranking but nothing coming out. I have tried the same thing with the 90 degree elbow at the top of the fuel up pipe and nothing there. Anyone have any ideas as to what to look at next. I have tried bleeding (before I had it running) but struggled to get anything to come through. I have checked:
- all fuses
- the fuel filter is brimmed with clean diesel
- fuel in the tank
- battery charged

I think you need to use a bulb type primer to draw fuel through from the tank. The system won’t bleed with fuel pump suction alone. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

You can also pressurise the tank through the breather to bleed the fuel system.

Thanks for this reply, this is what I ended up doing and it has seemed to clear the air lock and is allowing the car to run normally.
Is there any info on what could cause an air lock? I didn't move the car the last time it was used and ran the morning before it not starting.
Any info so I can prevent this happening again as it was not an easy fix to do on a morning before I can get to work.

For anyone following, it turned out to be the high pressure fuel pump. Whilst they are known for being pretty bombproof mine did end up going and wouldn’t allow the car to start at all.
Good way to check, try gravity feeding in fuel and if stalls with Jerry can on the floor then pump not strong enough to pull the fuel up

P.S don’t know anyone knows of someone who would take the old part to refurb it?
