I have a 110USW with the plain rear sides and have always thought it was a 'tinny' vehicle compared to the older Station Wagon. There was a tinny clang when you shut a door and the vehicle seemed noisy on rough roads and tyre noise (running 33x12.50R15 BFG MTs) seemed amplified in the rear on tarmac. I just put it down to the slide in LR build quality over the years.
I recently bought a set of the MUD interior trim panels, mainly to protect the inside of the panels from impacts that would show through to the outside. Had them fitted on the service yesterday - an unexpected benefit is that they come with foam that sits between the metal panel and the trim inside, what a difference this has made to the vehicle noise level coming from the back! All the drumming and tinny noises have gone completely. Highly recommended if you have a USW. No connection with MUD except that I've spent too much money with them in the last year or so and feel I ought to own part of the company by now https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/collections/int...trim-panel --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |

If you don't want to splash out on the Mud panels, it's very easy to trim the sides with carpet and then re-fit the existing trims:

Using a garage I took the lazy option so I have no idea but I think there are instructions on the MUD site for most of the products. --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |
