My dad struggles like hell to get in a defender, My old one that never had the side steps, he had to grab the gear stick to get in,
The peugeot he can get in and out of no bother. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

It’s that ‘hop up and duck’ thing at the same time (if you’re over 6 foot) that kills me.

I went to URBAN automotive about 2 years ago and they just had a Lambo delivered, complete with pull off stearing wheel and invited me to sit in it, it was parked behind my defender. i got in ok, but thats exactly what happened to me, we all had a good laugh as i was crawling on the floor getting out, i turned around and said to them , thats why i drive a defender honest !!

I think my dad is just over weight, nearly 20 stone last year, and still quite high now. So it takes him a bit to move sadly. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Couldn't agree more. If I was in the billion (Not million, Not enough) dollar club, I'd buy a large acreage of land, build a warehouse and track, and pack it full of these for track days. No interest in driving one of these in town or built up areas just to be seen. And I'd do the same with a rally circuit and buy Nomads and classic Escorts and Intégrales etc. Day to day I'd be pottering around in an RS6 or Porsche Cayenne. Long journey to the track (which I'd probably build in Spain) would likely be a fully loaded Bentley Continental, perhaps an Aston. I wouldn't consider an all electric, as much as I love the Taycan, until they can do 500 miles in one hit. Although I do really like these, so might use one for Town. Citroen Ami. Can't argue with that, and I know a subset of 'investors' do put their cars to good use without the need for publicity. But these things are not driven around London at 10 miles an hour - exhaust on obligatory 'loud' mode - for the enjoyment of their full potential by the driver. They are purely an indication of one's ability to obtain credit. Nothing new in that, the prestige car market has been built on that principle from the moment there were enough models to have a 'high end' and a low.
Some of the best fun in motoring can be had with 80 wheel horsepower and rear wheel drive; if it was about driver satisfaction there would be other ways to acheive it. These are about attaining lap times the drivers are rarely capable of achieving. |

Some years ago, 90's I think, so well before the explosion in availability and ownership of hyper cars, some cad worked out that globally the average driven speed of a Ferrari was 30mph as almost all were owned and kept by wealthy urbanites. Doubt that's much different for any marque, if Knightsbridge on a Saturday afternoon in summer is anything to go by... Monsieur Le Grenadier

I see they are doing a van version ~ the AMI Cargo ~ the passenger seat has been removed and replaced with a load module with a capacity of 260 litres or 140kg. A vertical partition has also been fitted to keep the driver separate from the cargo, and it has been designed to not impact visibility. Click image to enlarge A new secondary shelf has been fitted to carry extra items or be used as a desk, and can be moved or removed as needed. The cargo bay floor can also be dropped to match the height of the vehicle floor so longer items can be carried, and a secure storage area is fitted at the rear to carry more valuable items." Prices in France look quite good. "The AMI Cargo will go on sale in France in June, priced from €6,490 (£5,600) or €24.18 (£20.86) per month on a long-term lease deal with a deposit of £2,508.43 (£2,164.9." We'll have to wait and see if it's coming to yhe UK. "Again, just like the regular AMI, Citroen hasn’t decided on whether the passenger version or the Cargo will be sold in the UK. As Car Dealer recently discovered in a special video review of the AMI, interest is high not just from customers but also dealers. Citroen UK has received over 8,000 expressions of interest from potential buyers." https://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/ci...van/222806 |

This car is designed to offer an electric version of a car that is very unique to France for which you don't need a licence. The original idea was to offer continued mobility to older rural French, who might fail their old age retests due to poor eyesight or health. Somewhat strange give the original lawnmower engined models can still travel at 40kmh and at a few hundred kgs would be a continued lethal threat to children and small animals. No surprise that as there is no restriction on who drives them, they're a popular stop-gap for people who've been banned for speeding or drink/drug driving. Which sort of misses the point about being banned. Also, immigrants are taking to use them, with no need to prove any ability to drive, as are youngsters who can't pass their test. We have quite a few locally, driven by some ancient people who shouldn't be anywhere near working machinery, and who's preferred time to hit the roads is rush hour. Being stuck behind one coming up the hill to our town 5km at 5%, is quite a slog. Given the current models look like the one below, and is petrol rather than electric, I can quite see why this will be popular. Funky for youngsters, electric for urbanites, cool for alcoholics.

I keep seeing locally something similar to that Grenadier, it looks a bit bigger than that one but smaller than a Reliant. I suspect it’s a similar idea - for bikers who don’ t have a full driver’s licence, what was called a Quadricycle. The one I see looks bigger than that Aixam Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

I'm seriously thinking of getting one. Just for local pottering. 1000€ down, 100€/month. Bargain for a funky little electric car for shopping or heading out for our walks (or skiing). Usually take the beast, but this would be so easy. Fully charged in 3hrs from a standard plug. Monsieur Le Grenadier
