Td5 Cruise Control Inop
Hi All,

My 2005 Td5 90 cruise control has stopped working, I have a Roamerdrive fitted and was running the speedsignal through a speedo healer to fool the engine ecu. I have removed all this so the cruise should work when overdrive not engaged.
Prior to it not working at all the cruise occasionally would just drop out every now and again but now it just won’t work.

So what can stop the cruise from working?

So far I’m thinking, Brake switch, clutch switch, engine speed to road speed error. I can’t think of anything else.

I’ve plugged the Nanocom in and the brake and clutch switches are changing state when pressed, the clutch switch reads on when the pedal is not pressed but changes to off when pedal is pressed, is this correct?

Cheers

I think the nanocom will also show the inputs from the Cruise Control switches shouldn't it?

I suspect you might have a bad connection either at your switches (whatever you used) or at the ECU end connections.

Hi Steve,

I was thinking that but Nanocom shows the dash switches working.

I am going to rewire the switches as I have the Discovery steering wheel switch to fit.

Just seems odd how it isn’t working.

Cheers

Yes standard gearing, Roamerdrive bolted on but this wouldn’t effect it when just using normal gearing.

I’m going to rewire the switches, they have been fitted for at 9 years.

Cheers

I have a very similar setup. The only thing I can think of are to check the ECU connections, they may not be seated quite right i the plug. The other thing is check your earths, switches and all as these can cause the ECU to do weird things. For instance I did at one point have a problem with hesitation during accelerating, turned out to be a bad earth near the ECU, dragged a direct earth back to the battery and not had a problem since. Just a thought...

Thanks GeoBloke, I’m going to rewire the whole system and use the disco 2 steering wheel buttons so will look abit more neat than a couple of push buttons.

Let’s see if it resolves the issue.

Hi Bim. The only thing that you require to get the CC working with the OD is the usual wiring and switches, plus a speedo healer to trick the ECU into thinking that you are not using anything other than the standard gearing. Thumbs Up

You could do, not sure what switching it on whilst driving would do to the ECU though. I would personally have it on all the time for simplicity.

Hi Bim,

Just put a speedo healer and set to -20% it should work fine. You can have it on all the time shouldn’t cause any bother.

My on going saga, I have rewired and fitted the discovery cruise switches and check the status changes when pressed and they do. But still the cruise does not work even back to no speedo healer in the system.
So my next train of thought is to replace the clutch and brake switches even tho they seem to be working when checked them with the Nanocom. I just want to rule them out.

Cheers
