[Wanted] Warn winch steel hawse fairlead
I'm looking for a standard Warn steel hawse fairlead as per pic.
Has anyone who has upgraded to synthetic rope and a nice shiny ally fairlead got one sitting around?
Thanks, Andy

So a year after first posting this turns out I'm not sorted!
Anyone got one of these hanging around? Any condition considered.
Thanks... Instagram: l90andy

I thought the steel cable needed a roller fairlead, and the one in your pic is for plasma rope. Or am I misunderstanding?

Andy.

It's a fair question, but a lot of the old warns and superwinches came with steel rope and these cast/forged (not sure which!) type of fairlead.
Here's a pic of one:

Ahhh. Ok, live and learn. I’ve got a Warn roller fairlead that I’ve removed and thrown in scrap bin. Have never seen wire and hawse combined.

Good luck with your search Thumbs Up

I am not aware of a non roller fair lead suitable for steel wire ropes

Roller fairleads normally have chrome plated mild steel rollers suitable for steel wire rope. A synthetic winch rope could go to bottom of roller and get stuck/damaged

Aluminium hawsers are normally recommended for synthetic winch ropes. Steel wire ropes are likely to cut a groove into the aluminium hawser.

My advice speak to Chris at Electric Winch Shop on 01274 680 744. Alternative is whoever has taken over Goodwinch on 01363 82666. Sorry can not remember their name this time on a Saturday night.

Are there any harden steel/stainless steel non roller hawser suitable for steel wire ropes?

Brendan

Hi Brendan, they do exist and were more common than they are now. See ZSD's thread, fairlead and wire rope shown on page 2:

Pedant mode on, I'm afraid.

There's no such thing as a "hawse fairlead"! There are plain fairleads and roller fairleads, but to preface the word "fairlead" with the word "hawse" actually makes no sense. It is widely done, and sadly is becoming commonplace, but etymologically makes no sense.

You can have a hawser (a rope or cable for mooring or anchoring a boat or ship), a hawse pipe (an opening in the deck of a ship allowing the anchor cable to enter the cable locker), a hawse hole (an opening in the gunwhale of a ship to allow a hawser to pass through), and a hawse (the area of a ship's bow above the cable locker where hawse pipes and hawse holes are located) but not a hawse fairlead!

Pedant mode off. I feel better having got that off my chest!

I'm afraid I don't have a suitable plain fairlead for you but will keep my eyes peeled.

I understand perfectly and intended no criticism of your good self! I was unfortunately siezed by an irrestible yet futile urge to put the world to rights, for which I apologise. Rolling Eyes

Did you manage to find one yet? I'm on the lookout too and have found a few listings for them online if you still need one.
