Hi all,
I'm looking at a 110 XS UW along with the usual suspects such as L200 but I have to say even though it (arguably) not as good as the L200/Hilux for what I need I still like it the most. I've been categorically told my all dealers that now it'll defiantly be a 2.2L engine not a 2.4. But have some more questions and you look like a friendly lot. Can anyone tell me what colour this is? 
Is it Buckingham Blue or Tamar Blue? As you've guessed I have a real hard on for the colour blue. Also as it'll be a commercial vehicle (I'm self employed) so half the reason that I'm looking at it rather than a car is the tax are there any down sides to the N1 classification. You get cheaper road tax but insurance seems to be higher. I'm getting quotes of £1400 a year based on personal not company insurance. That seems a little steep or is it about on the money. Also I assume that the MOT etc is the same for the N1 vehicle and there isn't anything there that i should think about. Anything I've not considered about owing a defender? (I'm moving from a Focus). Just trying to think if there isn't some massive downside. I've got to live with the car for 5 years (company) so can't afford to make a bad choice. So far I'm at: - It won't fit in multi stories - It's not exactly frugal on fuel - It won't fit in a car park space - Someone will more than likely steal the bonnet. Many thanks in advance. Richard |

You have to love them - then anything that is expensive or goes wrong is just a "character flaw"
Worth noting: I got lowered springs on mine that drop it to less than 2 metres (197 cm) - can now get into most German car parks. Also got wheel spacers (3 cm each) and the steering stops re-adjusted - can now park (fairly) normally. Fuel sucks... but hey - you can't have everything

~30mpg isn't so bad for a large vehicle? Most of my mates have mid-life-crisis cars, and none of them get much better than 30 mpg. Interesting, a mate has a Lexus 4x4...what a joke! It's a hybrid, but he only gets 28 mpg. Just had rear disks & pads........£635....yes £635.... for rear disks & pads!!! Now that IS a high cost of ownership! Re the height, yes you can't get in some car parks...especially with a roof rack... BTW - in 9 years (and almost 200,000 miles) of LR ownership, parking hasn;t yet been an issue. I do look for larger spaces though - but I do that in any car as I don't like "supermarket bash" damage... Re the 2.4 - there are some in stock. I bought mine last week, and collect it on Tuesday next week...it's a 2.4. there are a few dealers with stock. you need to ring around... today i drove across 3 counties and back again. smiled all the way. would'nt have in the FL or my 'normal' car as they are just cars.
Defenders seem to have their own time and space reality. once you get used to their individuality they are a great drive. if you don't really know Defenders try and borrow one from the dealer for a day a do a load of miles to get a good feel for it. good luck and enjoy BM52 |

I spent enough time driving green ones around Sailsbury Plain to learn to love them. Reminds me of a time I had a TV presenter, a Priest and a Colonel in the back. Sounds like the start of a bad joke. I'm not really that worried about it being a 2.2L. I know the DPFs can be a pain in the arse but I do plenty of A/B road driving so there shouldn't be a problem cleaning it out. I think for me the benefit of the Euro 5 engine may outweigh the risks, I have family living in the LEZ so if it changes to Euro 5 (which it will do in a few years I'm sure) I'll still be able to take the landy in to see them. |

Hi, I have just moved from an L200 to a 110 utility.
The l200 is better on the motorway,parking,etc surprisingly I have better mpg with the 110. If you are doing lots of miles and the L200 and Navarsa etc are a more useable truck which when you change to All terrain tyres are more than adequate off road. I would advise to test drive all vehicles and see what suits you best. Having said that I love my 110 even if its a bitch to reverse a trailer in a tight space and all its other faults. |

I fully hear you. I am completely aware that the L200 and Hilux are much better on the motorway and acting as a "car which HMRC think is a van so don't tax you to high heaven" - I just can't get emotional about them.
Kids like me grew up drawing land rovers on the kitchen walls not L200s. Another thing I'm like is that the 110 has all its load space enclosed. The L200/Hilux is separate, i'm pretty sure my dog would get the arse if I locked him in the back out of the "main" cab. |

I haven't been a Defender owner for long but these things have soul and character in spades. I can't think of any other marque that has those attributes other than perhaps Ferrari

Mine goes in multi-storeys no problem (standard springs, no roof rack) and I have never struggled parking it, you just shunt it and stuff the knobs tooting at you to hurry up. Life slows down in a Defender...its great, get one! 2011 110 USW

And Sockpuppet, what other vehicle gets a multitude of differing waves from like minded collectors. Get one and you'll see what I mean...........if they don't wave at all in response to yours, they don't really use a Defender properly.
The best thing I ever did. Except for the small glitches that make it unique. Come on you lot lets standardise the waves!!is it to be....... 1. One finger off the wheel 2. Flat hand wave 3. Two fingers in reverse (of course) 4. salute I've had them all  |
