Pump turns same speed as the camshaft which is at half the speed of the crankshaft. So for every 2 revolutions of the crank, the pump makes one revolution (this is also fundamental principle of a 4 stroke engine).
I have a diesel turbo, which use very similar pump type. Before I took mine off, I marked the position of the pump relative to the timing case as the pump has 3 elongated holes which can change the timing by a few degrees (1 degree at pump means 2 degree at crank due to the half speed). If you did not mark the pump, then I would position the pump somewhere half way of its possible mounting angle and see how it goes. The timing belt pulley is keyed on the shaft, so can only go one way. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Hi Dinnu,
I have now started to pull out the cav pump and will also exchange timing belt. One silly question: which way is correct to untorque the screw holding pulley on crank shaft? I dont remember if it is clockwise or unclockwise. I tried unclockwise but it was like trying to move a rock. Thanks Johnny |

It is normal right hand thread, so anticlockwise to undo. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thanks Dinnu, then it is just to add more strength in my arm.
I then need to find the right work shop to deal with the pump. Br johnny |

Yes, the nut is done quite tight, sorry I do not have torque figures. Had made a tool to be able to take the torque without applying too much lateral force on the pump shaft. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
