Unless you have something to hide, there is absolutely NO reason to not get a DBS check if there is 'any' hint that it might be required

I send guys into schools all the time to maintain fire sprinkler water tanks. We are outside to carry out our works normally in a compound. All my guys are enhanced DBS checked. Some schools want to see our certs some dont. Its a relatively easy process to get DBS checked. 130's have feeling's as well you know

I have been working in education for the last 16 years and cannot see the problem. Simply speak the DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) in the school to determine what they require. I agree with Leamreject that where children are concerned everyone has to err on the side of caution.
Any case a DBS check is very straight forward, and I would be concerned if a school allowed unsupervised access to school premises without carrying out the appropriate checks. Assuming the school goes ahead with a DBS check make sure you signup to the update service once it comes through. This will ensure your DBS will always be up to date. |

Cheers all for the replies. I have no issues with having a DBS check if needed. I have a week off now, so lets see what has happened when I return to work 1999 Defender TD5 110

I have worked in schools over 30 years we prefer for onsite contractors to have a dbs. if you come in to contact with any children a dbs. is a must however if your not in contact then its not a must . if we have contractors on site and do not have a dbs. and need to be in a area where we have children I have to stay with them .
it covers us as a school and the contractor against any allegations a dbs. is easy to get and only a issue if there is a crime against a child or a serious crime recently I ended a contract with a firm from York who kept sending staff without a dbs. who needed to be in the classrooms with the children being around . that cost them 50.000 pounds so its worth your employer getting one for you |

Also remember that a DBS has no expiry date, a lot of companies I deal with put a 3 yr life on them. So we just include the cost of DBS's into the contract and spread the cost over 3 yrs.
Also remember that the school/venue has no legal right to see the actual document. All you are obliged to give is the number, and it's up to them to check the validity. There is a cost involved so many don't. They rely on the employing company to not employ reprobates ![]() 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |
