My wife never complained about anything re the Defender Wink
Once she did complain about a smell, but that was the MINI and it was absolutely justified as it turned out when the air ducts were inspected...:

I had a bad smell coming from my AC vents once, while we were searching for the source, my buddy asked some of his guys to check in between the inner guards and the wing. He then told me that they encountered the stinky AC problem before and it turned out to be a petrified / mummified cat in between the inner guard and the wing! Shocked The cat must've found its way in there and got trapped.

As for the cause of my stinky AC woes, it was the ignition switch slowly burning itself. While still operable, it was in the process of dying / burning. Good thing we caught it. Changed it out with a new one, no more smell and the truck ran much better to boot.
