How do your Defender smell in the cabin
My wife complains about the smell in the cabin, I didn't notice it "I love it" But now, to be honest, I also do notice the smell of oil (I ques its the transmission). Is this one of the free options you get with a Defender or do I have to survey for leakages?

All my best

If you can smell oil or gear oil, you probably have a slight leak. You shouldn't be able to.

I like the smell of gear oil but growing up in a workshop environment 40 years ago I must be a little odd. I would agree if I you’ve started to notice it recently, it's a tell tale of a possible leak. Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

Have the exact same problem as AndreB. My wife complains that her hair gets to smell like oil too, but probably was an excuse to go to the hairdresser more often. She in fact stopped complaining since the hairdressers are closed due to the pandemic. But I cannot smell it although admit that when I clean it I have a rag in one had and a can of WD40 in the other. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I imagine she is talking about the smell of wet spaniel. That’s what my Defenders have all smelt of.

Mine has a rich earthy bouquet, with damp musty overtones and an EP90 finish.

I have very fond memories of being a young chap and going to the local scrap yard to take parts off Minis as I couldn't afford to buy new parts.

That oily smell never fails to hit the mark and always brings those days back to me. Very Happy

My old Hardtop is nearly there. The USW just smells of wet dogs!

Hope Monty is well Andy, he looks happy. You need one of these hanging from the mirror. Hides all manner of nasty smells!

Monty’s brother and mum doing their best to inflict traditional odours on my new Defender!

Unfortunately, the carpets and accoustic isolation mats are made of cheap recycled plastics and stink. Désolée Embarassed

Monty is very well, and very very hairy currently, thanks. I bet Charlie and Lola are loving the new Defender and can’t wait to make it fully theirs with a nice spaniel scent.

2.4 TDCi had leaking injector seals diagnosed after I reported an oily fume smell coming through the vents - now cured.
