Gareth - from our little tour of the EMC a few years ago, did they not say the blocks and/or heads were cast in Spain? Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

And ISTR the cranks came from somewhere a long way away (Mexico or Brazil?) then finished there?

As others have rightly pointed out the Defender is made by an Indian company in Slovakia so I'm not sure how buying one could be considered supporting Britain. More importantly though, who are you to judge how others spend their money? Not that it is any of your business but 3 of our 4 cars are made in Britain. I try to buy British whenever possible, not just cars, everything, but the quality of any product is important to me and sadly there are many things we either make poorly or not at all. In many cases buying German is the best option. This is not just aimed at you but in my experience those who shout loudest about buying British obviously don't do it themselves. If they actually tried they'd know just how bloody difficult it is. Have you tried? Have a look around your house, in your wardrobe, cupboards, garage, shed and see how many products are truly British. I doubt it's more than 5%. Anyway, back to the thread... WARNING.
