Another story of woe......
I’m glad that I decided to wait 6 months before placing an order. Jim |

When the Defender is shut down, the actuators on the turbo, and the egr valves cycle through several movements to keep them free and clear of carbon build up. Could this possibly be no more than a squeaky joint that could be fixed with a drop of oil? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

I’ve just read through his post on FB and it seems he gets a burning smell also. It does indeed sound like a fire risk, however I can’t help thinking that the dealer has just gone down the ‘computer sez it’s broke so replace it’ route!
I’ve noticed mine occasionally smells really ‘hot’ after I’ve driven it. It’s the DPF regeneration. There is no indication to the driver that this is occurring and sometimes the car will be shut down before it’s complete, and it will smell of burning. I can’t help thinking, if it was me, I would be asking some technical questions before leaving my new car with a dealer for weeks on end waiting for parts. I do remember similar issues in the early days of the Discovery 3, and it was not unheard of for dealers to ‘rob’ parts from their cars to keep customers on the road. I also remember we had a very useful parts chap at Yeovil LR who would know all the tricks to get shortages solved by pulling the right strings to get parts taken from the production line. Maybe that’s not the case now, but to just do nothing because the person your dealing with says they can’t do it is weak. Maybe he needs to push harder for a solution? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy |

Gareth,
Nick @ Yeovil Land Rover left about 8yrs ago to set up his own business (not car related). I know the new parts manager very well and he’s tearing his hair out from hearing the words “back order”. I’ve been waiting four weeks for a replacement fridge for my RRS and I’m getting daily updates where he’s being told “tomorrow”. I don’t envy the LR parts team as my mate calls a spade a spade!!! I know Nick ‘the large one’ very well ! In fact I grow chillies after he inspired me to do so. Not as a business like he does, but I enjoy growing my own.
Like you say, parts supply issues have been a problem for years, JIT production methods are to blame to a great extent. Covid has been used as an excuse, but a decent supplier should have found ways around that issue by now. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy |

I waited almost a year to place my order after a very poor experience with an Evoque in 2010. I'm worried a year wasn't long enough to wait! The amount of time, effort and money LR must waste sorting problems. Must be a great time to own a dealership - profit on selling the car and then loads more fixing all the problems! |
