Registration for this year’s Land Rover party is open again. Excellent event, and given Covid messed up my plans to go last year, I can’t wait to go this year. Long way off, but anyone else coming? Highly recommended.

Agreed, not like a UK show. I enjoyed more as a destination for like minded folk, (beer, rock, checking out some vehicles and some nice autumn weather) than as an off road experience. Who doesn't like Spain after all? As you say, just chilled no and chatting in the sun, before some music in the evening. Plus we stopped en route and back in Barca, Perpignan, Béziers to make more of the trip and this year I think I'd do Toulouse and Andorra, perhaps one of the smugglers trails for the off road fix. I have thought about finding another event, Germany maybe, but the weather/Spain/proximity is a huge draw. Billing and Peterborough are almost 400km further each way, plus there's the faff/cost of ferry, not to mention the chore of negotiating the M20, M25 and M/A1. In a Defender. In June. Horrific idea. Might see if Italy has anything to offer, otherwise I'll be heading back to Spain for some sun and beer. Monsieur Le Grenadier

The only LR event I go to is Landrauvergne, because it is so close. and they give you a free saint-nectaire cheese when you arrive I like it because it is organised by a group of enthusiasts rather than a commercial events company or LR corporate marketing machine. The latter is what puts me off Les Comes.

I have been to The Les Comes show three times now and will hope to go again this year... the off road is awesome, you dont have to go in a convoy, you get a map like a ski resortmap and all the courses are coloured rated for their difficulty and you can go where you want, the atmosphere is amazing and friendly. The facilities are amazing and spotless, evening entertainment and Spanish party atmosphere. Not lots of stands, but the ones that are there are really good equipment... i would highly recommend it. Tie it in with a week on the beach or a few days in Barcelona (half an hour away) to keep the other half happy and you have an epic trip.... lots of brits go year after year..... oh and it’s always been sunny when i have been there...

Always wanted to go, but previous jobs always a hindrance due to it being mid summer and in my previous job as an estate agent focusing on the tourist season and weekends. This year might have been possible but I'm having double foot surgery so no driving from the last week of June for two months. I was there the year of your photos Steve. And great to see that beautiful Teal RR and the Series both up on the Col. Do you have any details of the main smuggler's pass? If time permits, keen to do it. Mrs Grenadier wouldn't come, not a fan of camping or very long car journeys, so at least Barca won't been raining when you go, as it has been every time she's visited. It starts in Alina Spain.... and goes through a little village called Tor with a small cafe, nice to buy a coffee to support them.... then through to Coll de la Botella, Andorra..... its not really long but is a stunning drive in the sun....and impassable in the deep snow .....

I really enjoy LRP 100x better than a field in England with a load of ropey trade stalls and very mediocre entertainment.
LRP has huge amounts of amazing off roading, feels more focused on the cars than selling junk. May or may not go this year due to Covid/Brexit etc... would love to thougg. Instagram @defender_ventures Empire Tuning - Agent |
