D300 No Info or News
I am starting to research a replacement for my SDV8 HSE RRS . I want to tow a 3 ton caravan so power and torque is important. Also fuel economy and availability means diesel is the only way to go.

I can't seem to find much in the way of reviews , realise that all the diesels are the inline 6 pot , but would be good to see if paying more for some extra boost is good value?

I've had my D300 for almost a month now and think it would make an incredible tow vehicle. The amount of torque is truly impressive, and it is also an incredibly smooth motor. One thing I have noticed that would make it a good tow vehicle is that it holds it's speed when coasting downhill, the engine (or more likely computer!) does not let it pick up speed at all, if you're doing 90 at the top of the hill, it holds it at 90 all the way down, even without cruise turned on.

Mine has currently averaged 8.9l/100km since new - and that is with a lot of idling (fiddling with settings) and without driving for economy. On a recent highway trip it was down around the 7.*l/100km. I expect once it has run in and my driving is more "normal" it should be averaging down in the mid 8's.

I had a mate that owns a V8 Landcruiser take mine for a spin last weekend and he couldn't believe how much go it had compared to his cruiser, or how well it handled. In my opinion, definitely worth the extra money for the D300 if you are going to tow Thumbs Up ■ MY21 110 D300 SE ■ MY17 Jaguar F-Pace ■

I have just literally ordered a Zone Base 18.6 which i will be towing with my P400, been a few tests in Oz
of the P400 dragging a 3 ton van.. and a test cruisemaster did with their own D240, you have to keep
an eye on the rear axle weight.. In regard to availability of Petrol, my brother in law did a trip around the
Cape and FNQ and had zero problem finding the good stuff.. and on the fuel maps it seems 95 is available
in far more places than before. If i was buying again i would seriously look at the D250, you can fit 18'
wheels on it, i think the jury is still out on the D300 and 18"

My D200 is an exceptional tow vehicle. Excellent torque and very stable at speed. 30-32mpg in normal driving, 25mpg or so when towing c. 2.5 tonnes.

I imagine the D250 and D300 are the same just more oomph! They’re all the same base engine, just with a different map apparently. Although I’ve read the D300 has some different components.

I went for the D200 as it has more than enough power and torque for my needs, considering I was coming from a 200Tdi. But you’ll need the D300 if you’re coming from a Range Rover.

I have a D300 and it’s a great engine. The power is fantastic, with loads of torque from really low revs, and as the revs and speed builds it just keeps pulling harder. Mine is on 1700 miles now and it’s loosened up nicely. It’s 2 seconds quicker to 60 than the D4 sdv6 and that’s a hell of a difference.

I haven’t towed yet, but expect it will be even better than the D4 which is high praise because that was pretty damn good!

The soundtrack is very pleasing too. The more you press it, the better it sounds! Really quiet at low speeds, inside and out. I fact people walking in front don’t hear you coming!

Here’s a Sound track.

That is a nice sound. Will get around to a test drive in the future, not looking to change vehicles yet but starting my research.
