I'd love that.

Here is an attempt on my Disco after I have moved the OBD port:

So they broke the window and were trying to deactivate alarm via OBD?

The Disco alarm was never activated!!

The car was double locked, so they couldn't open a door, but they were trying to programme a key to the car so they could open and start it. By not being able to find the OBD port, they couldn't do that, so couldn't get in and couldn't start it.

I had another attempt on it, equally unsuccessful, but annoying none the less.

How come alarm did not go off if they broke window?

No interior sensors?

Moving your one port is good, but if you do this you are still leaving a live port somewhere.
If you do add a dummy one have it wired to power (so their equipment turns on). This way they’ll think it’s the kit and not smash your motor up looking for the real one. Just seems over complicated.

In my mind a 20p push or toggle switch works equally as well. Just get a small one and well hidden. If on the new defenders it’s hard to hide a switch, Alternatively cut the tx wire and add a cheapy spade and socket connector inline that is left unplugged till you need it. Or wrap the spade in cling film so it breaks the contact.
Either solution is super simple and one that only you know about. Cost 20p max. Plus time to do it well and hidden.

I also highly recommend old school etching your vin or number plate on the glass windows. Kits are in Ebay and simples to do. But an effective visual deterrent that’ll make the motor harder to sell on or clone.

Great suggests PCM, I'm going to have a look at the OBD extender or spade connector.

On the alarm on the Disco, the volumetric alarm did not detect the window break or the arm flapping around inside. I demonstrated it at the dealer when I went in to complain - their response: 'They all do that sir....'

Bought my switch from maplins but loads on the bay.
A set of 500+ different auto crimp terminals is about a fiver. You only need one.
Pin Wiring for obd ports is common knowledge. Just google it. Thumbs Up

Could you explain what you mean here? A 20p toggle switch works well at doing what? And where?

I think what he is saying - is instead of moving the OBD Port to hide it from an attack..

Cut one wire from the OBD Port and connect the wires to a switch - so that that wire can be turned on and off.. so effectively even if someone connects to the port they can not link with the car.

Obviously it needs to be the correct wire you cut and fit a switch in... TX line ... not sure which wire that is..

Then hide the switch.

I was under the impression that new keys couldn't be coded to the car, if a key replacment is needed a new blank unit has to be connected to the car to have the keys linked?

Yes - that is correct - Or at least that is the theory.

I have no idea if its possible to get around that some how... As I am not a car thief..

But everything can be cracked.. some how... its just a case of time and money...

Obviously dealers and manufacturers can program modules and cars - via OBD port...

So worse case - change the module - to the thiefs module and your away...

But there may be much more to it than that - especially as the keys have secondary immobiliser and in the case of secure tracker Pro an additional function.

Worse case they lift your car with a tow truck... if they want it.

My question came about for the more opportunist thief... and to have something physical as well as electronic...

Like I said something that maybe locks the brakes and steering... that is strong and not made in China...

This is my understanding too, but this has been the case for a few years now and this...

Fair enough. I was just looking online. The tech available is just mind boggling.

This thing literally starts any car once you plug it in to the OBD port.. what legit purpose could it even serve

...suggests a workaround exists.

I do like the fact that the bonnet cannot be opened whilst the doors are closed (the release appears to be blocked by an extrusion on the door), so can't get to do under the hood fettling.

It is my understanding that the KVM modules are now easily reprogrammable using some basic tools. (expensive but basic)

There are some dodgy locksmiths online that will create keys from a KVM module you send in, or even add keys to the same module.

In 2016 my RRS was recalled for a dealer applied security change that removed ALl previous keys registered and only allowed the two that I had to take with me to be registered. IIRC at the same time the memory was also changed so that only two keys could be registered to the system and this reduced the number of thefts of modern LR products considerably.BMW and Audi cars also had similar updates as they were being stolen as much as Land Rover products Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!
