Fair enough. I was just looking online. The tech available is just mind boggling.

This thing literally starts any car once you plug it in to the OBD port.. what legit purpose could it even serve

I had a Ghost system fitted to a Range Rover I had before I got my new Defender. It was a great system and putting the code in every time wasn’t a hassle.

Scary! Also the reason why I have a lock fitted to my OBD port.

I have a ghost on my current Range Rover and it is so easy to use. It takes seconds to put the code in and the peace of mind is worth every penny. So many get stolen outside shops/pubs/restaurants when people just pop in for something and the thieves are lying in wait for an opportunity. I know of two people who had discoveries stolen outside local shops where they were only inside for a matter of minutes.

Fair enough. This must be a UK thing.

I've never had issues in Oz or the US with this. Organized crime in the UK seems very vehicle focused especially with transit vans and the like.

I've had a couple of cars stolen in the past 3 years, the second in a car jacking. I got that car back in 15 minutes as a result of having a tracker and remote immobiliser which cut the fuel to the engine.

In chatting to the police during recovery, they were of the opinion the car would have been lost without it as the criminals had already cut the BMW factory fitted tracker out of the car in that time, that in and of itself changed the claim from a £40K+ to £1,500.

They even caught the chap who did it but the CPS dropped the case before trial (that a whole other sad story).

Sadly, Birmingham and its surrounding environs appears to be rife with car crime at the moment, so I have also beefed up the Defender security.

Looking for good brake to steering wheel locks and all I can find is cheap crap

Any suggestions?

A few things, in isolation probably not very effective, but combined should make it harder to nick and keep.

Third party immobiliser and tracker as above, disabled keyless (even if it is meant to be more secure), steering lock (stop lock pro but am considering something more secure) mainly as a deterrent and OBD relocation.

Do all this (as well as double locking), and unless they have the keys, they can't get into and start the car. If they do get the keys, the car can be tracker and stopped via a tracker they will have to know about and find.

I know it's not ideal getting a stolen car back, but the sadist in me would rather deprive them of their ill gotten gains than get a new car (even with GAP insurance), and my wallet can't take another full vehicle claim right now.

Have a decent auto electrician wire in a simple inline switch to the TX line of the OBD port.
Leave it off for normal use and just flick the switch to make it live for visits to LR.
I have done this on all my Defenders so can't see why it should be different on the newer ones. Cost is minimal and stops any wired OBD gadgets. Thumbs Up

I always thought wiring up a big capacitor to the right part of the ODB port was the way to go, fry the tea leaf’s tech that’s connected to it and hopefully the scum that’s holding it. Just remember to disconnect when attaching your own diagnostics or sending it to the dealers. Mr. Green
