That looks a great idea. Are grenadier doing a hybrid or EV, I thought they were fitting car engines from BMWs.

Yes that's the main plan, but they have mentioned both hydrogen and EV. The hydrogen is more in the public domain with the agreement with Hyundai and their ability to use existing knowledge /equipment from chlorine production to produce hydrogen via their new subsidiary INOVYN.

Brilliant idea!
As mentioned in the video, the MASSIVE US market for pick up trucks is the intended use for this electric axle.
Easy retrofit into an existing chassis with minimal modifications to the suspension system is a great advantage. In these difficult times, passenger vehicles will be the main focus for the next few years, taking a large chunk of development budgets. This means trucks won't have to be left with no alternative to petrol or diesel.

Come to think of it, why shouldn't this be the main way forward for trucks?
Solid axles and leaf springs have been around for years, but they still work, simply and reliably, in millions of trucks today.
Why change that if you don't have to?
Coil sprung axle vehicles may need a bit more modification for the suspension links, but again this would be a simple retrofit.

A little more news on the eBeam system here:

"The Canadian company says it is already working with customers that it is not yet allowed to name and expects to demonstrate its eBeam later this year. According to Magna, using the technology will enable electrified pickups to meet or even exceed what today’s pickups are capable of."

Very interesting, so in a few years time this sort of solution may be the right one for us defender owners and our equivalents in the jeep, land cruiser, patrol, and old g wagon fraternities. Removing the fuel tank, props, gearbox, transfer box, exhaust and engine provides so many options for mounting batteries , optimising weight distribution and simplifying the drivetrain while allowing us to retain the vehicles we love.
