Just about to change my springs. I am on 130k and they are completely knackered. I did the shocks ages ago. Not sure which springs to go for. I still want it to be the standard height. Just feel £100 a spring from Landrover is too much and £25 from britpart too cheap. Looking for a happy medium. OE spec.

You could look for some new take-offs, although I guess they'll be harder to find these days. If your originals have lasted 130k miles though, perhaps the LR price isn't that bad? Darren

Don't dismiss the BP items as being too cheap. I have had a set of OE spec BP fronts on for about 6-years now and they have been perfect with no sag or settling whatsoever. I removed them last year when I did a chassis change and they cleaned up as new which is more than can be said for many aftermarket springs which chip & rust within months. So impressed that last year I fitted a pair of BP OE HD rears. ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

i replaced rusty original springs for new takes offs and fitted Fox shocks last year and the difference was night and day, totally transformed the ride, the Fox are a bit more than the standard or OME or Billstein etc but worth every penny.
I also fitted the airlifter bags inside the rear springs, my 110 is used for various things like expeditions where its fully laden, shooting with hardly any load, towing trailer or huge caravan etc and its made a huge improvement. 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 2010 110 XS Utility 2.4TDCI 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 (gone) 2007 Discovery HSE TDV6 (gone) 1993 110 csw 200 tdi (gone) 1994 90 HT 300 tdi (gone) 1994 discovery 300tdi (gone) 90 hybrid 3.5 v8 (gone) Range rover bobtail 3.5 v8 (gone) |

My originals are at 230,000 miles but really could do with changing. 110 Hicap always towing heavy Ifors.
Front winch dosn't help either |

I don't really understand why having a leaky damper makes you think the springs need changing. If they're ok, don't change them.
My 110 works hard, is always laden, is often towing, and has a heavy winch and is still on the original springs at 250,000 miles. Front dampers are original, rears are first replacements. |

The problem with defender springs is that where the coil terminates, there is a lot of metal to metal contact as the spring is compressed and less compressed. Most other car manufacturers reduce this issue by using coils that reduce in diameter towards the end, or simply terminate the coil without changing its pitch.
On newer Defenders, the end coils are just ground flat (with a change of pitch). Earlier 90s and 110s has the ends flattened, so the coils that touch at its ends have a much wider contact area. Better design in my opinion, more expensive to manufacture of course. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Really useful, thanks guys. I was assuming that it would be efficient to change the springs at the same time as the shocks, but it sounds like they will have a lot of life left in them!

Yes, at 45k just change dampers and keep the OE springs.

My 1992 200 tdi 110 is still on it's origional springs. The origional shock absorbers were changed last year. I do not do any heavy towing.

I've replaced shocks with new LR take offs but still on original springs (136k).
If springs ok leave alone and save money |
