TDCI chassis converting to 300 tdi
Advice needed please, has anyone converted a 110 tdci chassis to rechassis a rotten 300 tdi? Is it just the engine mounts or is there more involved? I have the genuine engine mount cardboard template and unused mounts from a dealer supplied remotor kit. 300 is a 2002 ROW spec 110 which is basically a TD5 chassis with 300 engine mounts and a plastic rear tank. Thanks.

a lot of things to consider here and also I'm no expert in this field but is there the issue of chassis numbers etc ie is the tdci becoming a vehicle with increased emissions which I guess you'd never get away?

the other thing to consider is gearbox mounts but I guess physically this would be much easier than going the other way ie tdci engine / box is much bulkier then tdi.

I'm sure there's lots of small variations ie fuel filter but other than the possible legality I'm sure its doable.
good luck. Thumbs Up

Done it with a new TD5/TDCi chassis fitting a 200TDi in, cut engine and gearbox off, weld/bolt ones to suit your new engine on.

Engine mounts cut off and weld yours on in the right place as above.

For the gearbox mounts, if your 2002 Tdi uses the crossmember with the mounts on it then that will bolt straight into the Tdci chassis. If it uses welded-on mounts (like Td5 and Tdci) then you cut/weld same as the engine. They might even be in the right locations already.

Chassis is coming from a well known breakers yard I've bought from for 25yr+ I'll get a full receipt which can if want the original vehicles reg and insurance company who declared it a total loss. ROW spec has separate td5 gearbox mounts welded to the chassis not the "gearbox support" of a normal 300

In my mind (probably wrong as usual) if the tdci chassis welded gearbox mounts are the same as the rotten chassis been replaced, tape measure time! Then its just the engine mounts to replace?
Really need someone who has done this for a definitive answer....
Am I talking myself into it as its super cheap?

Not sure what you mean by 'total loss' but in the old days of Cat A / Cat B then these vehicles could be stripped for spares BUT the chassis and ID had to be destroyed
In fact you didn't even have the ID of the vehicle involved

No idea what cat it is, not buying it with any original chassis paperwork, as I've said they've been in business for 40+yr and have done business for with them for 2 decades, they have way more experience in this type of sale than I will ever have. If their ok with it I'm pretty sure I'll be ok.
How did we go from a modification thread too this?

Measure it up, they may well be the same place. If not then they can be transferred from your ROW chassis or worst case scenario just fabricated as they’re fairly simple folded flat plate mounts.

no skin of my nose but just trying to make you aware of issues that arise with chassis swaps........have seen many business's over the years do all kinds of things - doesn't make them correct (or legal)

and ultimately if it has no ID how do you know it was relieved from the previous owner legally??
