Wow, over a year since the body went back on. It really doesn't feel like that long.
The end is in sight now though, here's some recent work that we've been doing. I didn't manage to photograph everything and these pictures are obviously not in chronological order but everything's sort of been progressing fast and all at the same time the last few weeks. I've tried to put the pictures I have together, related to the jobs that were being done. This is pretty much where we left things last time after getting the body on. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The chequer plate on the wingtops coming off was a bit that I'd been looking forward to. I bought some black to replace it with so that it'd cover up the holes but stand out a bit less than what was already on it. It's not fitted here, just lined up to see what the fit was like. I'm not sure whether the black will go on, I'll have to see what it looks like when it's finished. Really getting there now though. Picked up a new bumper because I didn't want to put the old A bar and spots back on. I like the clean front look much better. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge It was so good to go drive again, even though it was just a couple of minutes. There are still a few little jobs to do, mostly in the engine bay which is why the bonnet hasn't gone back on yet. So now red has gone back into the garage for a few weeks to get those out of the way and then off to be painted. Click image to enlarge |

Thanks Clayton, it was good to get it out of the garage after all this time. I'm really looking forward to seeing it painted and having all the blisters on the bodywork fixed.
A family friend has refurbished the steering guard for me. I can't believe how well it came out, it's like new. Click image to enlarge I got new foams and covers from exmoor so it's pretty much all new aside from the frame. Quite a difference between the old and the new ones Click image to enlarge It was pretty difficult to get a decent picture from inside the garage, I'll get a proper one once we're back on the road. I didn't do the middle seat because I was undecided about putting a cubby in. I think I'll stick with the seat though so that's a job on the future list. One of the rear seatbelts was broken so I'm just waiting on a replacement to arrive before going for MOT and then it's just a case of waiting for the paint shop to fit me in. |

It's always nice to see the after pics when some item has been re-done, nice seats and the steering guard looks like new and roll on the call from the painter

This weekend I got my beloved Defender back from the paint shop. It was there for a little while longer than I expected but I am unbelievably happy with how it came back.
Here are some pictures I received during the process: This one in particular made me happy - in a previous life the fuel filler recess had already been badly touched up and it always bothered me
And afterward: This looks like some kind of filter on the image but it's not. The colour practically radiates. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The colour match is spot on - this inside section is original Click image to enlarge I'd had an idea during the rebuild of painting these bars so they are more visible through the grille. I'm honestly still undecided on how well it worked but I reckon I should have chosen a bolder colour to get the effect I was thinking of. Click image to enlarge Perhaps red would have been a more appropriate way to do it. Or given the steering damper and shock absorbers maybe a matching blue: Click image to enlarge I'm happy with the white anyway and am completely overjoyed with everything else. MOT booked for next week then I need to refit the steering guard & do the rear decal. After those, my jobs list is finally empty (yeah right!) and I can get back out there. |

No problem Jon, I paid £2k total to have some patches of blistering repaired and then the body, roof and rear crossmember painted.
