Porsche Taycan
Saw one of these yesterday. What a car. I’m not a huge fan of EVs, despite understanding the need. But if my pockets allowed, this would be one I’d consider. And you know it’s a serious Porsche when you see the unbelievably enormous front rotors and ten-piston calipers. Vast, and look like they mean business. Anyway, judging by reviews this is the future for performance EVs.

No denying the tech & motors are amazing - but at nearly 2.5 tonnes we desperately need batteries to get much lighter. Sad
Imagine the same kW stored capacity at half the weight - the acceleration, & particularly range would be so much better.

Are Porsche not getting the EV thing? First there was the naming of them as Turbos and now this. Huge discs and calipers should not be necessary with a regen system.

Apparently there isn’t at normal speeds. You can lift and stop. Apparently it’s for when you’re giving it a proper thrashing. Monsieur Le Grenadier

go 5 mins 20 in and you see why it needs the brakes Smile regen is good but its not good enough to compliment that kind of performance just yet.

We’re in the fortunate position of running one of these (a 4S). It’s actually a large part of the reason why we have a defender again as they don’t work so well with muddy dogs!

Very competent car, and doesn’t really feel like the weight it is as the CoG is quite low. I’ll be honest though and say that the regen braking takes a bit of getting used to and i want to find a setting that makes the pedal response more akin to a conventional car (I rarely use the brakes in a normal car, but in one of these you don’t get any real drop off in speed when you lift off the accelerator).

A friend has one with the “electric Porsche sound” (Google it) which, to me, makes the whole thing sound ridiculous.

The one I saw in Cobham the other week had what looked like plastic covers inside the wheel so you could not see the disk.

Looked a bit weird, I was half expecting to see zip ties holding it on as some people do with plastic wheel hubs.

Guessing it’s to do with hairy dynamics and trying to improve the range. It wasn’t an attractive look.

I was poised to make a company car scheme Taycan purchase around lockdown 1. It’s on pause now but will return. The speed of acceleration only appears matched by the speed you can add options and make the 4s a £130-160k Taycan Shocked 1951 80" S1 2.0

I had a go in one and was absolutely blown away by the way it handled and delivered its power.

Personally if I wanted an artificial sound generated I'd want the sound of a Tie Fighter attack!

I think ours came in at about £100k. Definitely easy to go well beyond that if you a bit mad.

Definitely recommend the Anderson charger if you have to put one in a visible location. You cease to notice it really quickly, ad I think it’s the only one that hides the cable when not in use.
