Pressurised gas strut for rear door?
The rear door on my 110 is well damped, but you have to push it open and it doesn’t take much of a right to left slope or gust of wind to shut it on your back whilst leaning into the boot.

In my old TD5 I bought a gas strut that opened the door and held it open. You needed to push it closed, but it worked well.

Has anyone found a similar product? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

I'm sure I've read on here somewhere that the rear door has a 'hold open' feature Confused Darren

Ok that wobble trick seems to work! It’s a delicate wobble though, or the strut returns to damping mode.

Bev no need. I think I might have the original door catch for your car somewhere, do you need it? The strut is very good mind. Plus I did cut the trim to fit it, so you’d need a new rear door trim. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

No need Gareth. I fully intend to fit it back on later next week. It’s really quite handy actually as the weight of the back door, when open, is always a pain. 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Oslo Blue

Yep that’s why I fitted. Nearly cost me a divorce though, I didn’t tell Wendy when I fitted it. She went out in the car and when she opened the back door it nearly knocked her teeth out !!

Open the door, click the door handle, and it will hold in place. You will her the solenoid work. Click handle again to close it. Works a treat. 2020 First Ed 110.

Has anyone had or seen anything in terms of this forum or various Dealer communications regarding the rear door strut falling off ! Sadly didn’t really notice until I closed the door !

Have passed to the Dealer for them so change as I can’t see how these are secured as no pin or screw.

Any thoughts appreciated

This is the first time I’ve seen it happen on all the groups forums I’m following so I would put it down as a one off but test get it into the dealership as warranty repair or replacement.

Has it just popped off the ball? Had a look at mine and it looks like it’s a spring fitting. A sharp knock downwards might dislodge it. Have you tried pushing it back on the ball?

I remember the early days of Disco 3 with the ‘torque relaxation’ of the upper tailgate struts! In other words the weren’t tight enough in the first place! 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV
