Hello
When checking this forum I saw someone installing sidesteps made in China to his Defender. By clicking on the provided link I found this dealer on AliExpress https://fr.aliexpress.com/store/group/For-...rt&g=y So how good are these accessories? Safety and security wise? I would like to install the rear hooks on my Defender Y21 resp. the side (lunch)box. From the pictures of the site the side box seems to be the original box with the LR logo hidden. So I suppose the box the dealer sells will be of less quality. In true chinese fashion they will reduce the section from solid to nearly hollow with a .2mm wall thickness.
They will look OK, be light weight, but not very functional or long lasting when used... |

Chinese R&D, Rip-off and Duplicate.......
A chocolate fire guard would put up more of a fight. Even the certificate of conformity has ink that would run off in the rain........ Think of your own and others safety during a recovery, buy the best you can.  |

You guys forget that most of your electronics,appliances etc. parts are made in China. ECU chips are made in China, iphones made in china etc.

Yes - China has teh ability to make Great Stuff... In Highly regulated and controlled conditions.
Unfortunately many factories are not so good. I have purchased $8M of equipment (machines) from China over the last 10 years... and if I had a choice would not do it again... The pain of managing the suppliers who agree things to your face and revert to Chinese Standard after you leave is not worth the saving Quality in general sucks.... Paintwork full of runs... Its painted... whats the issue... Material thinner sections than agreed.... whats the issue... Cables.. undersized... Chinese markings instead of CE and UL that was agreed... I look after a factory there and we produce good quality items... because we control what we do... The issue is Chinese local factories... Chinese Management and Chinese Culture... Do it as low cost as possible... Our Factory... Handrails on the stairs... Nice shinny stainless steel... looks great.. right size... but the material is like .2 / .3 wall section.... someone strong could easily crush it... Walls painted... but they also paint the floors because they dont mask anything... When you explain your not happy they agree.. but continue more the same... I ask them if their MB car came with runs on the door paint would they be happy.... may as well talk to yourself... I stop there... I have spent maybe 3 years in China the last 10 or so at our plant or buying equipment.... |

I'd stay away from the tow hooks for obvious safety reasons, but otherwise I'd give it a try. I've seen some of the side steps and they looked identical to the factory ones.
A Chinese 4wd equipment supplier who I buy other parts from, lists a whole range of parts, steps, roof rack, arch extensions, mud flaps, front guard, snorkel, etc. I have a pdf some where. I have not seen the other products in person, but previous purchases from that supplier have been good quality. (Note I don't sell import or sell this Defender gear.) |

A lot of the bolt on and stick on stuff that a lot of aftermarket suppliers in this country are supplying and fitting probably comes direct from China via either alliexpress or allibaba. I've bought a lot of other stuff (not for Land Rovers) from Alliexpress and never had a problem, you pay Alliexpress and the seller doesn't get paid until you confirm you have the item and a lot of times you get it quicker from China
