Fob remote battery change
Is changing the battery in the key fob for a 2.2 2014 , the one with the chrome side, the same procedure as for the earlier remote ?

I find sometimes the alarm red light stays on even when driving, and hope it’s just a warning that the fob battery is low and needs replacing.

The red light occasionally coming on is one of life's great mysteries but it's not a sign of a low fob battery. Darren

Isn't the low battery warning something to do with the indicators flashing? When you open or close (one or the other), the lights don't flash if your battery is flat.
Obviously, this is something you only discover when you can't unlock on a cold morning.

I’ve only noticed the red dashlight coming on and staying on when driving when I had a low fob battery. Once changed it did not come on. Re the indicators flashing when locking / unlocking, I think only one side flashes as an indicator that the fob battery needs replacing.

Re the battery er change process. It’s defined in your user handbook but I’m pretty sure it’s the same for the older and newer fobs.

Thanks for your response, unfortunately I old have the handbook for my 2010 2.4, and not the later 2.2 So can’t confirm if the battery change is the same.

Just done mine. To change the battery slide the silver bit in the direction of the arrow and pull it off. Carefully separate the two halves of the plastic assembly to expose battery. I did mine away from the vehicle and did not need to re-program.

If you register on topix you should be able to download a copy of your owners manual . https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm

Second from bottom post on page two . https://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defe...nge-2.html

It states the process is different for the later style fob. See below.

The MY15 hand book I have is different to the one Tact put up. And my fob looks different to the one in the picture in the pdf.

In mine there is no note about having to change it inside the vehicle

I have 3 steps in mine

To Replace the battery:
1. Remove the cover, by sliding it in the direction of the arrows
2. Use the key blade of the black key to separate the key fob body
3. Fit a new and unused CR2032 type battery (available from a Dealer / Authorised Repairer) with the positive (+) side upwards.

There is a note about not touching the battery and another note if the battery is not new then the low battery warning will not extinguish.

There must have been a change in the FOB at some point.

Cheers,
Col.

Thanks Col, apparently the supply for the alarm changed sometime in 2014.

As Ianh says - make sure it's a brand new battery when you replace it. I made the mistake of checking my fob battery with a multi meter and it read 3.06vdc so I put it back thinking it was ok. I eventually put a brand new battery in and everything worked perfectly. Defender 90XS SW

Col is an Aussie on the site I linked to, I just did the search, found the answer, provided the link, and copied his post to save you following the link Very Happy

If you look at the post I linked to someone asked the same question as you, someone posted a pdf but that was for vehicles with old fob, ie up to and including MY2013, from 2014 most have the new fob and a revised AS 10 alarm module as the components within the original Lucas green AS10 could not be sourced. The new pseudo AS10 module is black and uses the new type fobs.
Col then posted the procedure from his owners manual for the later puma 2.2

It also looks like you don’t need to follow the in-car procedure of the older key fob batt replacement. Just change the battery and off you go. Which is nice Very Happy although I do like the quirky nature of the old fob battery replacement as it fits with the overall quirky nature of defender ownership.

Re the battery.......the manual for my 2010 90 states a Panasonic battery should be used.
I mention this because my sister had a problem with her vw golf re the fob.
I changed the battery with a brand new cr2032 battery (not Panasonic) which worked then didn’t.
We called recovery and lo and behold we again managed to get into the car and started it.
Recovery followed her to a vw dealership.
They opened the fob after we gave our explanations and they said “oh you haven’t put in a Panasonic battery”
I said it was a brand new battery albeit not Panasonic.
They fitted a Panasonic battery and everything was as it should be which puzzled me.
What’s so special about Panasonic batteries ???

I can’t see why a Panasonic CR2032 will be better or different from any other QUALITY CR2032. For instance I use VARTA in my fobs and they work fine for years. The key is to avoid non top end battery suppliers and make sure you get from a source you trust as there are a lot of fakes out there or batteries past / close to their use by dates.

Nor can I tbh.
I think it’s more to do what the dealers stock in terms of batteries.
