| Indicator lights not functioning correctly | |
Hello fellow Defender lovers,
First time poster and recently became first time owner too. It’s a 2013 2.2 puma engined 110 station wagon, XS spec, which I adore. I’ve had it about 7 months now and have ironed out a few little mechanical issues already, but have now been presented with an new electrical issue which may prove more tricky for me to resolve.
I think it’s an issue of power to the indicator lamps in certain circumstances. I have LED lights throughout and the indicators function through the ‘Halo’ ring around the headlights, as well as the standard separate front, rear, and front wing lamps.
With the engine on, engaging the indicator stork (either left or right) activates the audible ‘clicking noise’ but generally not the dashboard indicators or any of the external lamps themselves. Perhaps every 10 seconds or so, they may momentarily light up (including on the the dash) but then it’s back to just being nothing except the audible clicking. This issue persists whether or not the side or head lights are on also.
With the engine off, locking or unlocking the wagon via the key fob activates the indicator lamps correctly so it appears to be an issue with the connection or signal between the stork and the lamps. Perhaps an electrical connection has corroded or has come loose as it does function correctly every now and then. The last point is that it was an immediately occurring fault, ie. it didn’t deteriorate slowly.
It’s due its MOT this month so I need to resolve it before it goes in. If anyone has experienced and successfully fixed this issue or something similar before then I’d be keen to hear your advice and try fixing it myself in a targeted way first. Any remedial works anyone can suggest will be gratefully received. Apologies if there are similar threads already posted on this issue.
