There is an oring and seal that can be changed on the speedo drive housing -this can be pried up with lever as there is a lip on the housing.
I completely rebuilt my lt230 last year and replaced every seal and o ring, drive flanges etc, had the casing sleeved and fitted a syncro gearboxes shaft and high capacity sump. 12 months on and it is 100% drip free still. |

Leaking from the plug/sensor or the housing?
Bit odd to be leaking there as it’s high and out of the oil bath. Sounds like it could be building pressure when hot? > 110 XS Double Cab |

Blocked breather?
If its the housing they can be to get out, expect the lip to fail! Could just be the sensor its self but as ^^^^ how much oil is in it? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

One of these?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164151927568 Congrats on your leak free rebuild 👍 I took my box apart to change ratio but never removed the speedo sensor and that’s the only bit that leaks. Would’ve been easier on the bench but hey ho! Yes i'll take some pictures on the weekend. I cant work out if its the housing or sensor and the whole area has been covered in gearbox oil gloop. Will also have a look at the breather Thanks chaps Is there an exploded diagram of this part of the box |

Yeah have a good look. It’s close to the intermediate shaft failure point. If you’ve not already sorted that as part of your rebuild then could well be the culprit?
In my mind the speedo sensor seals on a crush washer? Perhaps my memory has failed me > 110 XS Double Cab |

Your memory has failed you. It seals with O rings as above.

That eBay part is not the correct part for the speedo transducer.
571665 is listed with the sensor in the catalogue. Worth putting in with an order of other parts as it's the grand cost of 20p. The eBay part above is 16p so you're mainly paying for postage. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

If it is any help to you Stefan, I just fitted this little lot to my own LT230:
Click image to enlarge The main O-ring seal sits in the groove on the drive spindle. The little "Oil Seal Speedo Pinion" on the end looks to me like a complete waste of time. I can't imagine it will stop any oil which is driving up the gear spindle, its a pretty loose fit on it. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I am not even sure what will keep it in place, it seems free to float up and down the gear spindle by a good 5mm. I should mention I was just following Will's excellent website's diagram:
Click image to enlarge It is quite possible I didn't do something right - I really can't see that end seal doing anything beneficial. 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |
