Interesting to see where the pickup market is, especially as it's always referenced as the farmer's replacement for an old double cab; and JLR shied away from making a version with the new Defender.

Notice how important the brand’s heritage is in this segment, as a small brand like Mitsubishi outsells VW. This is probably why #FiatFullback #MercedesXClass #RenaultAlaskan never worked https://t.co/15lQjhh4mn https://twitter.com/lovecarindustry/status...22305?s=20 Last edited by Supacat on 26th Feb 2021 1:24pm. Suspect the worse-than-average decline on the Isuzu DMAX is that people are hanging on for the new one (which is arriving in Europe in March only about a year after the ROW) - enjoyed mine while I had it (just sold it) and it is a good working vehicle, but its no Discovery/Defender
Also note thet the L200, Amarok and X-Class aren't running into 2021. Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history) |

What countries get the Gladiator? I thought Jeep had decided not sell in the EU.
ETA: I just had whistle stop tour of some randomly chosen Jeep homepages in different countries. Gladiator is available in Italy and Germany, but not France, Spain or the Netherlands or UK. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS Last edited by Bluest on 11th Feb 2021 1:00pm. Edited 1 time in total |

How many of these have been sold to take advantage of the lower BIK on a pickup vs car? Talking to a sales guy from VW, they're doing very well with the Amorak, but the sales aren't to people using it as a pickup.

IIRC the 4 door pick ups here in France now attract the E20k malus tax, 2 door std and 1.5 cabs don't, might have something to do with it here.

Correction. They are being sold in the Netherlands. They have them at several Jeep dealers. |

Nuts, isn’t it? Almost doubles the price of the car. Yet as a brand new model, with a Euro-wherever-we-are-now engine, it is probably cleaner than the millions of 20 year old clios and kangoos ragging around France at any given moment. Locally, loads of people drive 2/1.5/4 door pick ups rounds here. Construction firms, ski companies, utilities and of course the cool dudes for whom a pick up is part of the ski/MTB outdoor lifestyle. For most it is a genuinely necessary vehicle. What are they expecting them to buy instead? Where’s the fully electric pick up option? As ever, drivers are an easy target. Where I live is the second most polluted part of France after Paris. Yup, the Alps, at the foot of Mont Blanc. But 85% of the pollution comes from log fires, oil burners and local factories, not cars or trucks going through the MB tunnel. Just down the hill we have an industrial burner that burns waste from as far afield as Marseille, (why?????), and a graphite factory that churns all kinds of rubbish into the air. The region is also the European heart of precision metal parts for the airline industry (20+ factories), and loads upon loads of people still use green logs to heat their homes and if not, oil burners. Targeting cars such as this which sell in tiny numbers is completely disjointed thinking, but an easy PR-win with the green lobby. There are so many things that pollute more but are not being addressed because the ‘sell’ is too difficult. Hard to tell Mr and Mrs Bernard (aged 82, retired farmers) to get rid of their log-burning or oil-burning heating, easier to target the bloke (or blokess) who can afford to buy a 25k€+ car..... And don’t get me started on flying...... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

^ Cars are the easy target, central heating isn't an easy target. (the uk's building regs) aren't an easy target. Cars are.

Another market that's not seen a pandemic effect?
Click image to enlarge Car Industry Analysis (@lovecarindustry) Tweeted: 2020 results: sales of midsize pickups fell only 5% to 608,600 units in USA. All models lag behind the popular #ToyotaTacoma.
