Yes, but you'll have to tell DVLA.

At the risk of being shot down in flames for even mentioning the issue, it sounds as if you could be be heading for an IVA inspection...
This would be triggered by any changes to the chassis - for instance, chopping a 100” Range Rover chassis to create a hybrid Series bodied vehicle on springs or taking 18” off the back of something to create a bobtail or trayback... all frequent occurrences but nowhere near legal! Any more information on what you are thinking of doing? |

You may very well need an IVA and may end up with a different registration number, but it is legal.

Apologies... re-reading my post, I can see that it could be misconstrued...
Any changes to the chassis would potentially trigger an IVA, following which the vehicle would be deemed to be 'new' and would then bear a new registration number and no requirement for MOT for 3 years. Hacking the chassis around (as in for bobtails and traybacks) and NOT following the procedures would be where folks are on far shakier ground! For clarity, I'm very much in the 'IVA for legality' camp as I'm currently building a Tornado - effectively a Defender look-alike but based on a 100" Range Rover chassis with the rear element of the chassis removed to enhance the departure angle and suit the bodywork - it's a hideous process as the inspection criteria stretches to nearly 300 pages, but worth doing. |

Just thinking of shortening a 109 with a rotten chassis by putting it on a 88 galv one.... would this require an IVA??? @steve_overland on Insta.
